Full job description

HGV Driver

Pay: from £42,000 year 1, from £43,200 year 2

Contract: Full time / permanent

Location: Avonmouth, Bristol

Hours: Monday-Friday (flexible hours to meet job requirements)

Nights out: As required when business demands, paid at £26.20 tax free per night

Weekend work: Occasional as required (starting at £23 per hour)

Essential Requirements (Must have)

  • Valid HGV C+E (Class 1) licence
  • Valid Driver CPC & Digital Tachograph Card
  • Experience with different types of load restraints (straps and chains)
  • No more than 6 licence points on licence (no CD/IN/TT/DR)
  • Professional and respectful, customer facing manner
  • Flexibility in working approach
  • Proven experience in commercial driving with relevant HGV Category
  • Good organisational skills with attention to detail in record keeping and load security
  • Good knowledge of drivers hours and tachograph rules and regulations

Desirable:

  • Minimum 2 years Class 1 HGV driving experience
  • Some experience with machinery or plant – NPORS or equivalent
  • Roping and sheeting experience
  • Experience with a variety of trailer types, flatbeds, curtain siders & semi low loaders
  • ADR training certificate (Categories 1-9 excluding 7)

The Role:

  • Drive and operate HGV units with a variety of different trailers – all of our trucks are fitted with driver comforts
  • Travel through the UK and Europe as required
  • Driving safely and professionally
  • Daily ‘walk around’ checks
  • Problem solve and think outside the box
  • Manage your time efficiently to meet operational demands
  • Moving a variety of goods as required by the customer and the business
  • Safely operate HGVs and HGV trailers to transport goods to designated locations in a timely manner, including loading and securing cargo appropriately
  • Plan routes efficiently to optimise delivery times and fuel consumption
  • Communicate respectfully and effectively with planning desk and team members regarding delivery schedules or issues encountered during day to day work
  • Adhere to company health and safety policies, complete risk assessments, follow safe working procedures and use applicable PPE at all times.
  • Complete all allocated training
