Job Title: Settings Manager
Responsible to: Responsible Individual (Sarah Tack)
Based: Nursery setting and Preschool setting
Salary: £30,000
Annual Leave Entitlement: 22 days plus 8 public holidays
The role will be based over 2 settings in Machynlleth and the ability to travel between is essential.
Machynlleth Community Children's Project Ltd (MCCP Ltd.) was established in 1992 and is a not-for-profit charity delivering high quality bi-lingual childcare to 43 (19 + 24) children a day, aged 6 months to 11 years in 2 settings in Machynlleth. We are currently working towards being accredited in the Curiosity Approach and are looking to recruit a Settings Manager to work equally in both settings.
Job purpose:
To provide inclusive play and learning opportunities for all children attending MCCP Ltd Settings and to maintain a safe, stimulating and enjoyable environment. To manage the provision, including staffing levels in collaboration with the Business Manager and Board of Trustees.
Main duties:
- To manage the care and preschool education of children accessing our services and to use knowledge of child development to ensure that all children are offered first class care and high-quality learning and play activities.
- To prepare for and undertake annual CIW/Estyn inspections and comply with all statutory guidelines, requirements and regulations including prepare annual Quality of Care report, Self-Assessment of Service Statement, setting evaluation report and setting development plans.
- To be a designated safeguard lead and therefore record and report any concerns in regard to child protection/safeguarding in line with MCCP procedures and statutory requirements.
- To be the designated ALNCO and ensure staff support these children effectively.
- To take childcare enquiries/bookings and record any enquiries in relevant paperwork and ensure all children’s paperwork is kept updated throughout their time with MCCP Ltd.
- To liaise with parents/cares about children’s needs, ensuring that the setting has an accurate overview of, and commitment to partnership with parents. Ensure monthly newsletters are circulated.
- To ensure key working practices for children are in place and that informative, accurate and up-to-date records, including progress and any behavioural or developmental reports are kept.
- To promote the use of the Welsh language and ensure a bilingual delivery across both settings.
- To carry out regular supervisions and annual appraisals in collaboration with trustees and to organise staff rotas, authorise, monitor and manage sickness and holiday leave for 10 FTE employees.
- To be responsible for MCCP Ltd.'s Staff files, ensuring any relevant training is undertaken and DBS checks are completed and updated.
- To lead, motivate and manage MCCP Ltd staff and ensure regular staff meetings are undertaken, actions followed, and issues brought to the Trustee Board as necessary.
- To report to the Trustee Board and attend trustee meetings as and when required.
- To provide an effective communication channel between the Trustee Board and staff
- To assist the Business Manager with budgeting as and when required.
- To manage the Health and Safety of each setting on daily basis and complete an annual audit.
- Undertaking any other duties appropriate to the role as deemed necessary by the Board of Trustees
- To promote, implement and become accredited Curiosity Approach Settings
Person Specification
Essential Requirements
- At least a level 3 childcare qualification recognised on the Social Care Wales Qualification Framework and at least a level 3 Playwork qualification or a smaller award as recognised on The Playwork Education and Training Council for Wales List of Required Qualifications for Playwork (or any lists which supersedes this).
- A minimum of 2 years' experience of working in a childcare setting
- Information Technology skills particularly Microsoft Office and Sage Accounting
- An understanding of the value of play in children’s lives
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Good oral/written communication skills
- The ability to work on own initiative
- Good organisational skills
- The ability to lead, motivate and manage a team
- Commitment to equal opportunities and anti-discriminatory practice

Desirable Requirements:
- Ability to communicate in both Welsh and English
- Experience of working with volunteers
- Experience of working (paid/voluntary) in the voluntary sector
