Maths and English Tutor Nottingham West Bridgford Centre
Inspire learning. Build confidence. Change children’s lives.
For 25 years, Explore Learning has helped children across the UK thrive through expert tuition, innovative learning tools, and the dedication of our incredible people.
We offer a truly individualised approach to tuition: our learning platform Compass follows each child’s pace of learning and adapts in real time, meaning our tutors can stretch or scaffold to enable meaningful progress.
We offer a truly individualised approach to tuition: our learning platform Compass follows each child’s pace of learning and adapts in real time, meaning our tutors can stretch or scaffold to enable meaningful progress.
While our award-winning platform takes us far, it’s our tutors who truly bring learning to life by building confidence, inspiring curiosity, and delivering the meaningful learning experiences that make a lasting difference.
If you’re looking for the chance to learn quickly through hands-on experience, supported by a team that’s invested in your growth, this is the role for you.
Our tutors act as coaches and mentors, not just instructors, supporting each learner’s progress with care and purpose.
As a tutor, you’ll play a key role in every child’s learning journey by:
Delivering lessons that last: Using our smart learning tool, Compass, you’ll deliver tailored sessions where you facilitate learning through questioning, scaffolding and stretching.
Building meaningful relationships: With a 1:6 ratio, you’ll get to know each child and create a safe, inspiring environment where they can take risks and develop a lifelong love of learning.
Driving academic progress: Support members as they work through the national curriculum, entrance exams, and GCSE preparation, celebrating milestones and successes along the way.
You'll thrive as an Explore Learning tutor if you:
-
Are confident leading sessions with small groups (1:6), inspiring children to engage in their learning, using positive behaviour management strategies, and consistently prioritising their safety and wellbeing.
-
Feel comfortable supporting children aged 4–16 across the national curriculum, including 11+ entrance exams and GCSE content.
-
Are committed to building meaningful, long-term relationships, providing the consistency and stability that helps children thrive.
Why Join Explore Learning?
Make a real impact: Leave every session knowing you’ve helped children grow in confidence, develop key skills, and build a love of learning that lasts.
Focus on what matters: With lessons and materials already prepared in Compass, you can focus on tutoring and nurturing your members, rather than planning resources.
Grow and develop: Accelerate your skills through hands-on tutoring and ongoing development as you build confidence as an educator.
Work in a supportive team: Thrive in a collaborative, close-knit team where passionate tutors work together to deliver exceptional learning.
Location: This is an on-site role and you will be based at our Nottingham West Bridgford centre.
Contract: This is a permanent, part time role. You will be contracted to work a minimum of 6 hours a week over at least 2 different weekdays. Our available shift start times are:
3:30-4pm Tuesday
3:30-4pm Wednesday
3:30-4pm Thursday
3:30-4pm Friday
Morning/afternoon Saturday
Please note: This is not a summer-only role; we are seeking dedicated tutors to support our members throughout the next academic year and beyond.
Pay Rates & Progression:
Earn more as you progress! You will start on the base rate for your age group, with an annual opportunity to increase your pay based on the number of hours you have tutored for us.
Base Hourly Rate:
Under 18: £8 :40
Under 18: £8 :40
18-20: £10.90
21+: £12.75
- an additional 50p per hour will be added if working at a centre inside the M25. You will be paid for all training and inductions.
Requirements: You must be age 16 or over and have the right to work in the UK. You must have achieved a grade 6 or above in Maths & English Language at GCSE level or equivalent (we accept predicted GCSE grades if you will be receiving your results within the next 3 months).
Additional Perks:
-
We offer 50% off Explore Learning membership fees for all immediate relations of staff members.
-
Get rewarded for referring a friend. You’ll receive a £50 bonus for every tutor who you refer and £500 for every supervisor/manager.
-
Take advantage of our payroll giving scheme, enhanced parental packages, mortgage broker service and pension matching scheme.
-
Benefit from joining one of our staff networks. They are a place to share ideas and make social connections at work.
Please note, we hire on a first-come, first-served basis and reserve the right to close this vacancy once a suitable candidate is hired.
Proof of eligibility to work in the UK will be required. Unfortunately, we cannot offer any form of sponsorship.
We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expect all staff to share this commitment.
Safeguarding is paramount. Our safer recruitment processes are rigorous and designed to deter, identify and reject anyone who may pose a risk to children. Any offer is strictly conditional upon satisfactory references (taken directly from referees) and an Enhanced DBS check.
You must provide a full employment history with all gaps clearly explained and evidenced where required. Any omission, inconsistency or misleading information may result in your application being rejected, an offer withdrawn, or dismissal.
This role is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (and relevant Exceptions Orders). Relevant disclosures will be required in line with DBS and safer recruitment requirements.
