Full job description

At Shropshire Council’s Children’s Services, it’s all about the care. It always has been and always will be. We care for some of the most vulnerable children and their families in Shropshire. We care that children’s voices are heard. We believe that when we treat children and young people with respect and trust, love and encouragement, we give children every opportunity to grow.

We care for our staff, too. Which is why we’re investing in everything from new staff to new ways of working, so that our brilliant teams can do what they do best: give the best possible care to the children of Shropshire. And because we care about the great work you do, you’ll enjoy a £5,000 'well done’ payment, too. Because this is more than a job. It’s a career. And it’s all about the care.

How you’ll care for children

Join the Children Looked After service, and you’ll be responsible for ongoing assessment work and intervention with children and families. It’s all about progressing children’s plans and ensuring that they have access to the right level of service at the right time. You’ll work closely with colleagues and partner agencies to make sure that the child’s voice is always heard and recorded, and that it forms an integral part of your case planning.

What essential skills are we looking for?

To apply for this role, you’ll need to be an experienced social worker with a degree in social work or equivalent, a diploma in social work or certificate in social services. You’ll also need post-qualifying experience in children and families work, and to have completed your ASYE.

Any absolute must-haves?

You MUST have relevant social work qualifications (see above), and be able to live and work in the UK. You will need to have a DBS check.

How we’ll care for you

For us, care’s all about supporting you to do the best job you can, and to become the social worker you want to be. So expect proper support and supervision from passionate team managers, as well as a senior practitioner. It’s all about building positive relationships with friendly, helpful colleagues, and a wide range of external partners. It really is all about the team: we’re here to make sure you get the most from your career, not just today, but well into the future. We’re introducing hub working to cut down on unnecessary travel, reducing caseloads, and providing business support to reduce admin, allowing you to focus on what really matters.

As well as a whole host of excellent benefits, you’ll enjoy a £5,000 ‘welcome’ and ‘well done’ retention payment in gratitude for your commitment over two years. (Terms and conditions apply.)

· 28-33 days’ holiday, plus you can ‘buy’ more

· Fostering-friendly policies

· Flexible/hybrid working arrangements whenever possible
