We currently have a vacancy for a Specialist Study Skills Tutor and/or a Specialist Mentor supporting students on-campus on a one to one basis with their studies in accordance with their DSA Needs Assessment Report, course requirements and learning preferences.

You will be required to provide face to face support on campus.

Study Skills Tutor AS:-
This role will be to provide one to one support to students with autism, offering generic study skills strategies to enable students, in line with their course requirements, to overcome barriers to learning and become independent learners. Examples where you can help are: assisting with time management, organisation, planning, essay writing, referencing, meeting the marking criteria, sentence structure, critical analysis. Assisting with practical support to help them maximise their strengths and improve on any weaknesses.

Specialist Mentor AS:-
Your role will be as a one to one mentor providing tangible, practical strategies to assist students with autism from an emotional aspect such as: the transition to University, their personal development, socialisation issues, motivation and guidance, sleep hygiene and nutrition, to name a few. You will also assist with an academic focus providing soft functional skills such as time management, planning, prioritising tasks, understanding deadlines and demands and the challenges that involves and setting achievable goals.

Specialist Mentor MH:-
As a specialist mentor you will provide specialist, specifically tailored support to enable students to overcome barriers to learning created by a particular disability (e.g. various mental health issues) and to develop students’ skills for autonomy and success in the learning environment. The support you provide will be student-led to include: empowerment, emotional wellbeing and overcoming barriers to learning.

Cosmic People will offer you the support to succeed and progress in the role with a team of dedicated Account Managers. The successful candidate will have:-

Study Skills Tutor AS qualifications :-

Any undergraduate degree or a relevant degree (e.g. PG Cert Autism)
One of the teaching qualifications specified: Cert Ed, DELTA L7, DTTLS, PGCE, AFHEA, PGCHE, PGCAP
A willingness to invest in National Autistic Society training (or other) if required.
Complete some in-house Cosmic People training, if required.

Specialist Mentor AS qualifications:-

Specialist Mentor MH qualifications:-

You must hold a professional body membership (such as BACP, NCPS, BABCP etc.) and must be at a minimum required level (e.g. Registered Member MBACP)

Unfortunately we cannot accept BPS membership due to supervision requirements.

For all roles, you should have:

· Some experience supporting adults with autism and/or a mental health diagnosis

· Have an understanding of academic standards and requirements of H.E.

· Have excellent communication, time management and organisational skills

· A good knowledge of the English language

· Be able to work flexibly to support student’s needs

· Maintain professional boundaries and respect confidentiality and data protection requirements.

· Adhere to Academic codes of practice.

· Be capable and confident and able to work on your own initiative.

· Have problem solving skills, empathy, diplomacy and sensitivity.

· Be willing to embark on relevant CPD.

· For Specialist Mentor MH, be an experienced counsellor willing to transfer these skills to supporting students on a one to one basis in Higher Education

Payrate:-

On-campus - £30 per hour + holiday pay

Remote - £25 per hour + holiday pay
