Full job description

The Manager, Mining Technical Services , acts as a key pillar within the mining governance structure, ensuring implementation of Technical Management Standards and monitoring best operational and maintenance practices across all ArcelorMittal Mining locations. This role is responsible for supporting teams in adopting global standards that enhance safety, reduce operational risks, and drive excellence and asset performance and reliability. A strong foundation in technical expertise enables the incumbent to deliver robust support to mining sites, while also championing the integration of innovative solutions and emerging technologies to advance operational performance.

In partnership with site teams, the Manager oversees the development, execution, and continual enhancement of mine planning systems, drill and blast, geotechnical activities, and maintenance, ensuring safe, efficient, and cost-effective production on a global scale. The role combines technical depth with operational leadership—embedding industry-leading practices in maintenance, safety, productivity, and sustainability—while fostering local capability-building, supporting the adoption of innovative approaches, and investing in long-term workforce development.

Key responsibilities

  • Strategic Mine Planning & Systems – Drive group-wide mine planning cycles (short, medium, long term) and oversee the development and optimization of the Mining Systems across sites.
  • Operational & Technical Support – Ensure mine designs, schedules, fleet management and maintenance practices deliver consistent productivity, quality, and cost outcomes across multiple open-pit operations.
  • Safety & Environmental Leadership – Embed courageous safety leadership and sustainability practices across all technical service functions; ensure compliance with regulatory and internal standards. Lead corporate audits to ensure safe practices are adopted in line with the Global Management Standards.
  • Continuous Improvement & Innovation – Lead performance monitoring, benchmarking, and adoption of new technologies and methods that enhance operational efficiency and reliability across AM mines.
  • Talent Development & Mentorship – Build technical capabilities of centralized and site-based teams, with emphasis on mentoring technical staff.
  • Cross-Functional & Stakeholder Collaboration – Partner with operations, R&D, processing, finance, supply chain, and community engagement teams to ensure alignment of mine planning with business objectives.
  • Financial & Reporting Oversight – Manage technical services budgets, track cost performance, and provide consistent reporting to mining leadership on key technical and operational KPIs.

Qualifications & leadership profile

  • Degree in Mining Engineering, Geology, or related field; postgraduate qualification in management is advantageous.
  • 15 years of progressive mining experience, including at least 5 years in leadership roles covering technical services and mine planning in large-scale open-pit operations.
  • Strong understanding of global mining operations, including mine design, scheduling, fleet management, drill and blast, geotechnical risk, and grade control.
  • Proven experience in multi-site operations and cross-cultural environments.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills, with a track record of delivering performance improvements.

A globally experienced mining professional—strategic, technically strong, and culturally adaptable—who can align technical services across diverse operations. The role brings expertise in mine planning and operations support, a strong safety and sustainability ethic, and the ability to develop local talent while driving operational consistency and efficiency across ArcelorMittal’s mining portfolio.

Current key challenges (optional)

  • Providing the second layer of assurance within the Mining Governance Model.
  • Standardizing mine planning and technical practices across multiple operations with varying maturity levels.
  • Managing cost, production, and quality targets amid volatile market and operating conditions.
  • Developing local and centralized workforce capabilities while balancing the needs of global technical excellence.
  • Integrating new systems and technologies to improve planning accuracy, productivity, and sustainability.

Key competencies and attributes (optional)

  • Technical Expertise – Deep knowledge of mine planning, scheduling, drill and blast, geotechnics, grade control, maintenance and technical services across global mining operations.
  • Operational Excellence – Ability to drive productivity, cost control, and quality outcomes through robust technical systems.
  • Leadership & People Development – Builds and mentors diverse, high-performing technical teams across multiple geographies.
  • Safety & Sustainability – Promotes a culture of incident prevention and environmental stewardship.
  • Innovation & Change Management – Champions new technologies and continuous improvement to enhance performance.
