We are seeking a HCPC registered Specialist Biomedical Scientist for this exciting role within Haematology and Blood Transfusion at Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board.

The successful candidate will have:
HCPC Registration as a Biomedical Scientist

Experience of working within a NHS Pathology Laboratory

Excellent communication skills

A willingness to learn and develop professionally

The post is based at Prince Charles Hospital however rotation to Royal Glamorgan Hospital may be required to support service needs and is encouraged for professional development.

Applications are also welcomed from candidates who will be supported to undertake an up to 24 month training programme under Annex 21 to obtain the IBMS Specialist Diploma and relevant work experience. During this period, remuneration will be in accordance with Annex 21 Terms and Conditions of Agenda for Change.

The post holder will be responsible for performing a range of assays that contribute to the diagnosis, treatment and monitoring of disease, and will be required to develop and maintain competency in specimen reception, haematology, coagulation and blood transfusion.

A 24/7 service is provided for Haematology and Blood Trnsfusion. Therefore the post holder will be expected to fully participate in the out of hours rota once they have completed their departmental training and competency assessment.

The ideal candidate will have proven post-registration experience within Haematology and will meet the full criteria of the Specialist BMS Band 6 Job Description and Person Specification.

Welsh Skills Desirable: This post is advertised as Welsh Desirable. This doesn’t mean essential; whilst the candidate doesn't need to have skills in Welsh, we'll consider it an advantage when short-listing candidates. This isn’t ‘fluency’, just Speaking & Listening skills at Level 3 (equivalent to CEFR B2) or above. Level 3 means basic conversations with patients about their everyday health. Annex 21 Applicants

During the training period, the post holder will be paid at 70% of the top pay step of Band 6 (for Months 1 – 12), and 75% of the top pay step of Band 6 (for Months 13-24) in accordance with Annex 21 of the Agenda for Change Terms and Conditions.

Completion of the identified qualification is a requirement of the contract of employment.

Upon successful attainment of the qualification, even if sooner than the allocated timeframe, the post holder will automatically move to the Band 6 bottom pay step, as they will then meet the full KSF outline of this role and be expected to undertake all duties within this Specialist Biomedical Scientist Job Description as indicated.

NOTE : There will be some circumstances where current staff apply for these posts, and their new trainee salary will be below that of their current salary. To aid both the recruitment and development of staff it is recommended that staff across NHS Wales should have continuity of pay for the duration of the training to avoid financial detriment. This should apply when staff take up training posts both within and across NHS Wales organisations. Following this training, the remuneration will be the bottom of Band 3, again without financial detriment.
