Full job description

The Fashion Image cluster at UCA School of Creative Business, Fashion and Enterprise has an established reputation for training creative fashion graduates with a broad range of industry-aligned skills. An exciting opportunity has arisen to play a key role in shaping the BA (Hons) Make-Up and Hair Design course at our Epsom campus. We are looking for someone who can build on and help expand our current teaching provision, our research environment, and embrace the role of Lecturer and year lead (maternity cover). You should be able to demonstrate an awareness of contemporary critical issues in the field globally. A reflective and innovative approach to teaching and working collaboratively is essential to the role.

We are specifically looking for an individual who has the practical and contextual skills, knowledge and experience to work with our diverse students to expand their understanding and skills in Make-up and Hair Design and related media.

We welcome applications from those with hair and make-up knowledge and interest in the editorial and commercial industry, the intersection of beauty and technology, fashion narratives/storytelling, emerging technologies and contemporary discourses around fashion and beauty.

You will join a dedicated and diverse fashion team focused on achieving exemplary student outcomes. Prior experience of teaching at undergraduate and/or postgraduate degree course level is required. You must be able to demonstrate good team working abilities as well as good organisational and communication skills. The teaching duties will include all related course administration and require the successful candidate to be pro-active in developing new learning and teaching methods. The candidate will also be required to participate in marketing and student recruitment activities and to potentially engage in professional research in the subject area.

The role is based at the Epsom Campus. You may be required to work at other campuses on occasion.

The actual salary for this position is £24,638.40 per annum.

For an informal conversation regarding the role please contact Michelle Marshall, Programme Director, michelle.marshall@uca.ac.uk

At UCA, creativity and innovation are at the heart of what we do. Our legacy of educating eager and passionate artists, makers and thinkers runs back almost 160 years, and today we’re helping shape a global future that supports and nourishes talent worldwide.

We are also home to a thriving research hub, with academic experts and fellows leading the way in research on sustainability, design, textiles, animation, history and culture, and more.

Are you ready to share your passion for creativity with the next generation of innovators? If so, we want to hear from you.

Please note UCA may close a vacancy early in the event of high numbers of applications being received.
