Full job description

The Veterinary Medicines Directorate (VMD) is an Executive Agency of the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) and is responsible for ensuring the safety, quality, and efficacy of veterinary medicines in the UK.

We have a vacancy for the Head of Application Management.

This exciting and interesting job puts you at the heart of the VMD’s work in the authorisation of veterinary medicinal products. You will lead a team with diverse activities in a target driven environment where quality of service is essential. You will liaise with a range of stakeholders and provide advice on regulatory pathways. You will oversee the smooth running and provide advice on Operational Management of applications received in respect of Veterinary Medicinal products, ensuring adherence and reporting performance against published standards.

We're looking for you to have experience of:

  • Leading teams and effectively managing change
  • Working within a regulated or policy driven environment
  • Operating in a complex and evolving policy setting
  • Engaging constructively with a wide range of internal stakeholders and external customers or applicants

You should demonstrate the ability to get up to speed with:

  • Authorisation systems for veterinary medicinal products and supporting regulatory framework
  • EU and UK Veterinary Medicine regulatory requirements
  • IT services used by the team
