About Veteris

Veteris is an independent and innovative veterinary emergency service provider, reshaping pet emergency care in the UK. Our dynamic approach includes Veteris Mobile units—comprising a team of mobile vets—and Veteris Shoreditch, our 24/7 intensive care unit in North London. We offer comprehensive, on-demand care that sets new standards in veterinary emergency services. At the core of our ethos is a human-centric philosophy that creates a supportive workplace where teamwork and dedication to our mission take center stage.

Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced and driven Veterinary Surgeon to take on the pivotal role of Head of Triage Team. This is a non-clinical role focused on leadership, management, and guiding our Triage Team, which is composed of Registered Veterinary Nurses. The team handles all calls on our veterinary emergency hotline, providing high-quality clinical guidance to pet owners. As the Head of Triage, you will be instrumental in ensuring that our nurses provide the highest standard of clinical guidance to pet owners while maintaining the integrity and efficiency of our emergency services.

This is a key leadership role where you will ensure that the Triage Team operates seamlessly, upholding our clinical standards and protocols, and continuously enhancing the team's performance. Your goal will be to maintain and improve the quality of emergency triage care, support the development of your team, and help shape the future of our emergency response operations. Please note that while your veterinary expertise is crucial, this position does not involve direct patient care or hands-on clinical work.

Key Responsibilities

  • Leadership and Management: Lead the Triage Team of Registered Veterinary Nurses, ensuring they deliver empathetic, professional, and clinically accurate guidance to pet owners on emergency calls.
  • Call Quality: Oversee the quality of call handling, ensuring it meets our standards for patient care, and swiftly identifies the best course of action for each situation.
  • Training and Development: Continuously train and mentor the Triage Team, keeping them updated on clinical standards, technical developments, and enhancing their skills in handling emergency scenarios.
  • Knowledge Base Maintenance: Maintain and update our internal knowledge base (Notion), ensuring it remains an up-to-date and valuable resource for the team.
  • Scheduling and Coverage: Manage the rota for the Triage Team to ensure comprehensive coverage, providing 24/7 support for the team's emergency response capabilities.
  • Clinical Support: Serve as the escalation point for complex cases, providing second opinions and strategic support to nurses during difficult situations.
  • Data Analysis: Monitor call volumes and team performance metrics, regularly reporting to the Executive Team with insights and recommendations for potential team expansion based on demand.
  • Communication with Executive Team: Act as a liaison with the Executive Team, implementing their decisions and strategic initiatives to drive continuous improvements within the Triage Team.
  • Continuous Improvement: Lead initiatives to streamline team operations, enhance emergency care protocols, and ensure that all decisions align with Veteris's mission of delivering exceptional emergency services.

What We're Looking For

  • Veterinary Qualification: Must be a qualified Veterinary Surgeon with significant experience in clinical practice and emergency care.
  • Leadership Experience: Proven experience in leading and managing veterinary teams, with a focus on developing and guiding Registered Veterinary Nurses.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of guiding and supporting both team members and pet owners during stressful situations.
  • Organizational Abilities: Strong organizational skills with expertise in scheduling, performance analysis, and protocol development.
  • Problem-Solving Abilities: Ability to make quick, decisive actions in urgent scenarios while maintaining a focus on delivering the highest level of care.
  • Strategic Vision: A visionary mindset to drive improvements, innovate care standards, and contribute to the growth of the Triage Team in line with our evolving business needs.

What We Offer

  • Competitive Salary: Up to £45,000 per annum, depending on experience.
  • Professional Development: Opportunities for continuous learning and growth within Veteris, including support for training and development programs.
  • Benefits Package: Comprehensive health and wellness benefits, RCVS and professional memberships covered, and a workplace pension scheme. Fully remote roleRemote Working: The role is fully remote, providing you with the flexibility to manage your responsibilities from any location. The training period will be hybrid, requiring in-person attendance for 3-6 months to ensure a comprehensive understanding all business units within the practice.
  • Career Progression: Veteris is expanding its operations, offering significant opportunities for internal career advancement.

Supportive Work Environment: A collaborative and inclusive culture that values teamwork, innovation, and professional growth.
