Job Title: SEN MENTOR (Teaching Assistant equivalent)

Job Overview: SEN Teacher - Alternative Provision - Delivering Video Production Training for 7 to 17 year olds

Location: Taunton

Terms: Permanent / Contract / 40hrs per week during term time / 20hrs per week during school holidays

Salary: £22,514 - 25,730 pa

Benefits: Pension plan / Free staff child membership / reduced school holiday hours

Requirements: One evening shift / Occasional remote & off-site delivery

About Us: Tubers Academy is a digital learning based Alternative Provision and creative space for young people aged 7-17. We are a forward thinking, progressive company looking for dynamic teachers and creatives to assist in enabling young learners with SEN requirements to express themselves digitally.

Our Provision facility provides 1:1 and small group delivery of our video production curriculum, digital software pathways and structured gaming to SEN children out of, transitioning or struggling within the school environment.

Services include: Mobile Learning & Gaming Centre / Alternative Provision / Academy Sessions

Reports to: Provision Coordinator

About the Role: Responsible for delivering individual child SEN development programs within an Alternative Provision setting. Curriculum and delivery is digital media and gaming based. May be required to deliver or support across all services outlined above.

Responsibilities:

  • Delivering direct learner training.
  • Child progression and reporting.
  • Monitoring learner progress and targets.
  • Engaging with parents.
  • Centre/equipment maintenance during Alternative Provision sessions.
  • Working closely with Team Leader and Management to ensure service standards and development.

Candidate Requirements:

A dedicated, committed team leader with a strong work ethic. An engaging individual capable of supporting, guiding and inspiring young people with additional needs. A patient and empathetic personality with a passion for working with children who face difficulties in education and confidence in dealing with challenging behaviours,

  • Experience of working with children with SEN requirements. (E)
  • Experience of working with children with autism / PDA / ADHD / anxiety (E)
  • Understanding of EHCP and professional child assessments. (E)
  • Ability to understand the scope of individual learner specific requirements. (E)
  • Confidence to positively resolve issues with learners. (E)
  • Experience working with camera equipment and video production platforms. (D)
  • Knowledge of video games and internet culture. (D)
  • Flexibility to work overtime and cover shifts when required. (E)

Required Skills:

  • Confident IT skills, experience using both Mac OSX and Windows. (E)
  • Strong reporting and admin skills (E)
  • Ability to use design software such as Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator. (D)
  • Knowledge of editing software including Final Cut Pro X. (D)

Provided Training:

  • IT systems, hardware and software used within the Academy / AP setting.
  • Basic video production, video editing, media and tech training.
  • Service Policies and Procedures.
  • Paediatric First Aid training.
  • Child protection training.
  • Safeguarding training.
  • Autism awareness training.
  • Training in de-escalation techniques & strategies for behaviours that cause concern.
  • Continuous CPD and training as agreed.
