JSM’s reputation within the utilities industry for delivery has enabled us to secure main contractor status with many clients throughout the fast communications and Electricity Supply Infrastructure sectors.

Role Description

Working within Business Communications to support the whole business, the communities we operate in and our external stakeholders. The External Communications Officer will create and deliver regular external communications using a range of channels to drive both stakeholder and customer engagement, showcase the JSM portfolio and manage media relationships while demonstrating a return on investment.

Principal Duties and Accountabilities

The role will require proactive engagement with all business areas to support business growth by managing and developing our external communications strategy. Responsible for the planning and delivery of multi-channel communications including events, we are looking for a confident and detail focussed communications officer to contribute to and develop integrated communications driving stakeholder engagement through clear brand identity and media management. Develop our ESG offering, delivery and reporting.

General Duties

·Deliver external communications using a multitude of channels and content creating platforms against the Business Communications plan.

·Ensure that all communications reflect SHEQ policy and procedures.

·Proactively source content for communications and identify appropriate channel to publish.

·Deliver creative and compelling content on time and within budget to a high standard demonstrating an ROI.

·Work closely with the Head of Business Communications to ensure consistent messaging and tone of voice between internal and external communications.

·Manage media relations, including developing and maintaining relationships with key journalists and analysts.

·Oversee the development and distribution of press releases, media advisories, and other communications materials.

·Monitor media reports relating to the company's brand and amplify opportunities for positive Public Release, coordinating at all times with internal stakeholders.

·Coordinate media events and press conferences including invite.

·Provide communications support for Strategic External Events.

·Ensure that digital marketing and social media content aligns with the company’s brand identity and message.

·Manage an industry leading company website content, structure and accessibility.

·Manage stakeholder engagement including local communities and Members of Parliament.

·Facilitate community engagement initiatives including local school engagement.

·Drive stakeholder engagement through strategic sponsorships.

·Manage social values and communicate through appropriate channels.

·Define and track ESG KPIs.

·Attending client meetings and project review meetings to report outputs, issues and risks.

·Establish strong, positive relationships with both existing and new clients and identifying opportunities for further work and support.

·Write bid submissions and represent the Business Communications team in client bid presentations.

Skills & experience

·Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.

·Trustworthiness and discretion when handling confidential information.

·Event management and branding demonstrating ROI is essential.

·Previous experience with strategic plan creation and delivery is essential.

·Previous experience and proven in a similar role either in a communications role, product, or brand marketing position.

·Experience using digital design systems including Adobe Creative Cloud is essential.

·Proficient in the use of video editing software is essential.

·Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office and other IT applications, systems and intranets

·Strong verbal and interpersonal abilities, including the confidence to effectively communicate with and present to stakeholders at all levels.

·Demonstrated experience of managing and reporting ESG impact.

·Experience managing a multitude of communication channels including press, website, social media and events.

·Imaginative and capable of transforming abstract thoughts into workable plans.

·Experience European media channels and protocols (specifically Germany).

Qualifications

·Accredited member of either CIPR, CIM, ACEJMC or similar

·Minimum 2 years’ experience in an external communications position

Full UK Driving License
