About the Role

An exciting opportunity has become available for a full time Photographer and Content Creator to join us at the Cathedral, working on-site 37.5 hours on a salary of £26,000 per annum. Please note that there will be requests to attend evening/weekend events and services, for which as much prior notice will be given as possible. And so, an agile approach to the working pattern is required. This is a 2 year fixed term position.

Working within the Marketing and Communications Department and reporting into the Marketing Manager the post holder will be responsible for producing content for digital and printed communications.

About what you will be doing

The successful candidate will be an enthusiastic, proactive, curious individual who recognises the type of content which would interest our audiences, and is able to capture, produce and edit high-quality photography and videography for social media platforms such as YouTube and TikTok. Other key duties include:

· Plan and conceptualise content which tells the story of Winchester Cathedral

· Capture onsite content of events, key services, other activities, as requested by senior staff, and on own initiative

· Produce and edit high-quality photography and videography for various platforms, and for use by colleagues, such as the clergy, Communications Consultant, Director of Development, Marketing team. Edit content according to the platform, and ensuring suitability across multiple channels.

· Research social media trends and best practices, in order to propose fresh content ideas.

· Maintain the content library to agreed standards, enabling use by other departments

· To undertake other reasonable tasks that may be necessary to ensure the successful operation of the department or the Cathedral

· Work closely with the Audience Segmentation Analyst to understand the existing audience and to target new audiences

· Establish a pool of volunteer photographers to assist with content creation.

· Essential – Qualification or relevant experience to the job role

· Essential - Proficiency with relevant equipment (tripod, stabliser, lighting, microphone)

· Essential - Strong creative skills, with demonstrable experience in photography, video production, and editing

· Essential - Solid understanding of social media best practices, particularly on TikTok and Instagram

· Essential - Good team player, confident in supporting and sharing ideas with others

· Essential - Ability to work to deadlines with attention to detail

· Essential - Willingness to work within brand guidelines

· Essential - Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines

· Essential - Highly organized, with excellent time management skills

· Essential - Ability to use initiative and curiosity, capturing content independently across the cathedral

· Essential - Willingness to work occasional evenings or weekends

· Desirable - Familiar with Adobe Photoshop and other editing tools

· Desirable – Minimum of one year’s experience in content creation and social media management

· Desirable - Interest in heritage or in the charity sector

About the Process

The care and protection of children, young people and adults involved in Cathedral activities is the responsibility of everyone who participates in the life of the Cathedral Community.

All shortlisted candidates will be required to complete an application form and, where appropriate, a Confidential Declaration form prior to interview. Successful candidates will be subject to pre-employment checks, including two satisfactory references, and Basic Safeguarding training relevant to the role.

Our competency-based interviews are generally in-person and consist of one stage. Depending on the role, they may include a short task or presentation, details of which will be provided in your invitation.
