JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Title: Media Technician

Line Manager: Head of Department Media

Summary of Job

The role of Media Technician is a creative, practical and varied job. You will be working directly with students to enrich their college experience and facilitate their technical learning and capabilities. In addition to supporting students and staff, the technician is also responsible for helping to maintain the overall running of the department and classrooms, helping set up lesson resources and occasionally assisting in lessons.

Responsibilities

The Media Technician will be responsible to the Head of Media and Film Studies for:

  • Assisting students with camera and editing workshops.
  • First line maintenance of Apple Mac edit suite equipment
  • Video Editing (Final Cut Pro). Audio Editing (Garage Band). Desktop Publishing & Computer Graphics – Adobe Creative Suite and Microsoft 365 suite.
  • Preparation, demonstration and maintenance of video cameras such as Canon DSLR’s and Blackmagic cameras, lenses, gimbals, lighting, microphones and audio recorders.
  • Assisting with the setting up of PA systems and projectors.
  • Assisting in setting up audio visual equipment including green chroma screen.
  • Managing/booking allocation of resources and workshop.

Person Specification for Media Technician

The successful candidate will have the following essential qualifications, experiences, skills and values:

Essential Experience

  • Good general level of education to a minimum of A-level or BTEC Level 3 or equivalent
  • Experience in video editing
  • Experience in building and maintaining AV systems
  • Experience in digital camera work including framing
  • Experience in sound editing

Essential Personal Skills & Qualities

  • Strong interpersonal skills with ability to communicate effectively with staff and students
  • Able to work effectively as part of a team but also able to work independently and manage own workload
  • Flexible and adaptable and able to cope with changing situations
  • High level IT skills with both Macs and PC’s including use of Mac programs and MS Office programs
  • Good general knowledge of Film and T.V.
  • Good organisational skills coupled with the ability to identify and agree priorities with staff and meet deadlines set

Desirable

  • Further education including appropriate technical or professional qualifications
  • Affinity with young people in the 16-19 age range
  • Experience of working in a medium size organisation ideally in an education setting

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: £20,512.00-£22,707.00 per year
