Full job description
Alison Hume, MP for Scarborough & Whitby, is looking for a Senior Communications & Digital Content Officer, based in her Scarborough constituency office.
Scarborough and Whitby is one of the country’s jewel in the crown coastal areas with a rich history and a stunning coastline. Alison seeks a communications specialist to support her in improving education, training, and work/life opportunities, to retain and attract talented people and business, and to create a dynamic environment that meets the social needs and aspirations of everyone from young families to the recently retired.
We invite candidates who have a passion for politics and current affairs, who may have a practical understanding of driving political campaigns and can amplify Alison’s messaging to reach the widest number of constituents.
Ideally you will have experience of working in a news or media environment, adept at meeting deadlines, enjoy adapting to a rapidly changing agenda and instinctively prioritise competing demands.
Whilst drafting eye-catching press releases and copy, you will have daily contact with Alison, work as part of a dynamic parliamentary team, liaising with media, local and regional leaders and stakeholders. Plan & accompany Alison to constituency events to create digital content.
Ideally you have professional experience of producing, scripting, shooting and editing social media content. If you also have graphic design skills, even better! With these skills you will create video content to highlight Alison’s work in the constituency and summarise key debates and speeches in parliament keeping constituents informed of Alison’s work and local impact.
With the team you will help to develop both short-term and long-term communication strategies. Creative and innovative new ways of messaging will be encouraged!
You will have editorial and creative responsibility for managing and refreshing Alison’s website where constituents and media colleagues can access detailed information. This will also contribute to your delivery of a regular e-newsletter.
You will enjoy researching and producing briefing documents for Alison in preparation for constituency events, speeches and media interviews and attending media events.
If you:
- Are a changemaker with a desire to make a positive difference
- Enjoy working with people and have excellent writing, social and communication qualities
- Can meet our requirement for accuracy and attention to detail
- And want a job where no two days are the same
Please get in touch!
There will be some weekend work with TOIL made available during the week.
Alison is also happy to consider part-time or flexible working arrangements so please let us know in your covering letter if you have alternative working proposals.
Alison welcomes applications from a diverse variety of backgrounds, people and perspectives. She is committed to creating a welcoming and inclusive staff team
