Sponsorship may be available under the Skilled Worker transitional arrangements for eligible applicants.

To be considered, applicants must meet all of the following requirements:

• You must have been granted your first Skilled Worker (or Tier 2 General) visa before 4 April 2024.
• You must have held continuous Skilled Worker permission since that date. Breaks in employment will mean you are not eligible.
• If your Skilled Worker permission has been cancelled, curtailed, or has expired without a valid continuation of permission, you may not qualify.
• Applicants who were granted their first Skilled Worker visa on or after 5 April 2024 are not eligible for the transitional arrangements.

Applicants will be asked to provide evidence of their immigration history to confirm they meet the transitional eligibility requirements.

The successful applicant will be responsible for paying their own Skilled Worker visa application fee, Immigration Health Surcharge and any associated personal immigration costs. The Company will pay all sponsorship costs that it is legally required to pay.

PAY

Base Salary per annum - £32,326.88 plus £6785.00 per annum in Tronc.

No accommodation is provided.

Opened in 1834 as a Coaching Inn, University Arms is Cambridge’s oldest Hotel. For 180 years, the Hotel was added to, updated, and modernised in line with the age; however, it was the reopening in 2018 after a four-year £80m full renovation that really positioned the Hotel. WHAT WILL YOU BE DOING

As a Sous Chef, you will be responsible for the preparation of all foods within the kitchen, ensuring it is to the highest standards. You will be quick, efficient, and accurate, providing prompt service delivery. You will understand the importance of consistency and cost control. You will lead and support junior members of the team and produce your own work in accordance with deadlines and quality guidelines. Your tasks as a Sous Chef will include, but will not be limited to:

THE DUTIES

• Lead the kitchen in the absence of the Head Chef Exec Sous Chef, ensuring smooth service and consistent quality.
• Train, mentor and motivate junior chefs, leading by example at all times.
• Manage stock control, ordering, waste reduction and cost efficiencies.
• Uphold food safety, hygiene and allergen standards in line with company and legal requirements.
• Ensure high standards of presentation, portion control and taste.
• Foster a positive, respectful kitchen culture.
• Take responsibility for rectifying hazardous situations and reporting major areas of concern to the Head Chef.
• Supervises and maintains standards of cleanliness in the kitchen.
• Ensuring food quality and excellent standards are maintained for all dishes created.

WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR IN YOU

• Experience as a Sous Chef in a Four or Five-Star or high-end restaurant.
• Strong knowledge of cooking methods, kitchen equipment, and best practices.
• Teamwork-oriented with the ability to lead and train a team.
• Competent level of English spoken and written.
• Must be available to work a varied schedule including early late shifts, weekends, and bank holidays.
• Thorough knowledge of food products, recipes, and specific food preparation.
• Approachable person, with a hands-on and can-do attitude.
• Can produce consistent service in line with company recipes and standards.
