Full job description

Be part of a team offering inclusive, flexible, multi‑sensory education that helps young people thrive in the environments that suit them best.

The Role:

We are currently looking for a compassionate and resourceful Mentor to work with an 8 year old child for 4-10 hours per week in Hackney E9 / Waltham Forest E17. The role will require you to be child led, highly flexible, and feel comfortable supporting the young person’s special interests. Full training will be provided along with professional mentoring during the provision to ensure you feel supported in this role.

Experience:

HTLA (Level 3) Teaching Assistant. Specialist knowledge of, and at least 2 years experience of supporting the needs of, autistic children with a demand avoidant profile. Willingness to spend time outside in nature.

About the young person:

You will be working with a bright, articulate, 8 year old boy. He is kind, funny, polite, empathetic and thoughtful. He is very curious about the world and has a clear desire to learn. He is currently educated through an EOTIS package (Education Other Than In School). His challenges include social anxiety, hyper-sensitivity to sound and touch, faltering self-confidence and rejection sensitivity.

Their world of interests include:

He has a particular love of nature and animals. He is very interested in science, space, history, engineering, and arts and crafts. He enjoys dancing and sprinting. Transformers and Pokémon are current special interests.

Requirements:

  • This is a self-employed role with flexible hours.
  • Role may include sessions during school holidays as well as term time.
  • All successful applicants will need to comply with our Safer Recruitment Policy.
  • Public Liability & Professional Indemnity insurance are required.
  • An Enhanced DBS check issued within 1 year is required, if you do not have this, we can start the process.
