Job Description - Youth Worker
Position Title: Youth Support Worker / Youth Worker
Purpose : To assist and support with the planning and delivery of activities and programmes at Mary’s
Working Hours: 25 –37.5 hours a week
To include:
- Afternoon and evenings Programme delivery
- School Holiday (inc daytime sessions)
- Occasional weekends and overnight stays (residential activities)
Pay: FTE £28,860, Pro rata for part- time
Responsible to: Senior Youth Worker
Working Relationships: CEO, Youth Club Operations Manager , Delivery Team, (Youth Workers, Youth Support workers, Volunteers) Partner Organisations
Location: Mary’s Youth Club, Upper Street, Islington, N1 2TU and other locations as per programme requirements.
About This Role
We are looking for an enthusiastic, motivated, and reliable Youth Worker / Youth Support Worker to join our team on a part‑time or full‑time basis (depending on the availability of suitable candidate(s).
This role will focus on supporting the delivery of open access youth sessions.
We are seeking someone who is flexible, innovative, and able to work confidently on their own initiative, while also being a strong team player. Candidates should have a minimum of two years’ experience working with young people in a youth work, education, community, or support setting.
If you are not yet youth‑work qualified, you must be committed to working towards a recognised qualification, and we will support your development.

Mary’s Youth Club is a vibrant, community-based organisation committed to delivering high-quality, open access youth work for young people aged 10–19. Based in the heart of Islington, our mission is to create safe, joyful, and inclusive spaces where young people feel a deep sense of belonging, empowerment, and opportunity.

You will help create a welcoming, safe, and engaging environment for young people from a wide range of backgrounds. Working as part of a team, you will support the planning and delivery of activities, build positive relationships with young people, and encourage their participation in sessions.

The role involves engaging with a diverse group of young people, supporting their wellbeing, and helping them develop confidence, social skills, and positive connections within their community.
Principle tasks and responsibilities
Programme Delivery
- Deliver open access sessions that are safe, welcoming, and engaging for young people aged 10–19.
- Support a range of activities across areas such as skills for life, creativity, wellbeing, sports, and social action.
- Assist with the delivery of school holiday programmes, trips, and special events.
- Ensure safeguarding, inclusion, and youth voice are embedded in all activities.
Engagement, Outreach & Support
- Build positive, trusting relationships with young people from diverse backgrounds.
- Create a safe, respectful environment where young people feel able to participate.
- Encourage engagement in activities and support young people’s personal and social development.
- Provide guidance, support, or signposting where appropriate.
- Carry out outreach in the local community to engage young people and raise awareness of Mary’s Youth Club.
Programme Support, Promotion & Administration
- Support the planning and delivery of youth sessions.
- Maintain attendance registers, activity sign‑ups, and contribute to monitoring and evaluation.
- Promote sessions and activities to young people, families, schools, and the wider community.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues, partners, and local organisations.
Professional Development
- Participate in team meetings, reflective practice, and supervision.
- Engage in training opportunities to develop youth work skills and knowledge.
- If unqualified, demonstrate commitment to working towards a recognised youth work qualification.

Youth work qualification (Level 2 or 3) or willingness to work towards one : Essential
Relevant training in youth work, education, community work, sports or arts: Desirable
Sports, outdoor, creative arts or coaching qualification: Desirable
Safeguarding training or willingness to complete : Essential
First Aid qualification or willingness to obtain: Essential
Minimum 2 years’ experience working or volunteering with young people: Essential
Experience delivering or supporting activities or group sessions : Essential
