The role in a nutshell:
As a Van Mate Volunteer, you’ll travel with our drivers to collect and deliver donated items. You’ll help move goods between homes, workplaces, and shops, and support the team with stockroom tasks.
What will you be doing?

In this role, you’ll:
  • Collect, load, and deliver donated furniture, clothing, and other items.
  • Move stock between shops.
  • Responsibly dispose of items we can’t use.
  • Support the shop team by accepting donations and preparing items for sale.
How would you be supported in this role?

You’ll get online and in-person training when you start, plus refresher training and ongoing support. We’ll cover agreed expenses and give you the chance to shape your volunteering experience.

Why do we need volunteers in this role?

Van Mates play an important role in making sure stock gets to the right place at the right time. This helps Age UK raise vital funds to support more older people in local communities.

Additional information:
We offer flexible shifts to suit your availability. As an Age UK volunteer, you'll get discounts on Age Co. products and services, plus offers from other brands through our discounts portal. Just ask your volunteer manager to find out what other perks are available.

What skills, interests or experience might be helpful in this role?

We welcome people from all backgrounds and experiences. You don’t need any previous experience, just a willingness to learn and work as part of a team. If you’re happy to follow Age UK’s policies and be a friendly representative of the charity, you’ll be a great addition. We’re committed to building inclusive teams that reflect the communities we serve, and we’ll do our best to find a role that works for you.
