Job Overview

The Sussex Ox pub is looking for passionate and keen front of house staff to join their friendly and dedicated team.

The Ox is a country pub situated in the beautiful surroundings of The South Downs National Park. We pride ourselves on local, sustainably sourced ingredients and we have their own farm in Jevington, just two miles from the pub.

The role will involve waiting tables, so a good knowledge of food and drink is required, and bar experience is also preferable but not essential. The candidate must be able to work Saturdays and Sundays.

Due to the location of The Sussex Ox it is important that the candidate has a valid driving licence and access to a vehicle, or a reliable method of transportation to and from their shift.

Approximately 10-20 hours per week, plus extra during busy periods or holiday cover.

Approximately £14.50-£16.50 per hour depending on age (this includes a share of the tips.)

Responsibilities

  • Greet guests warmly upon arrival, providing a friendly and professional first impression
  • Take orders accurately and serve food and beverages efficiently, ensuring guest satisfaction
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the dining area, bar, and service stations
  • Process payments and manage POS systems with precision
  • Support bar operations by bartending or preparing specialty drinks when required
  • Uphold food safety standards and ensure compliance with health regulations at all times

Qualifications

  • Previous experience in hospitality, restaurant service, or catering is highly desirable
  • Knowledge of food safety procedures and best practices in food handling
  • Experience in serving, bartending, or barista roles is a plus
  • Strong communication skills with a friendly, energetic demeanor
  • Ability to multitask effectively in a fast-paced environment
  • A genuine passion for hospitality and providing exceptional guest experiences

Pay: £14.50-£16.50 per hour

Expected hours: 10.0 – 20.0 per week
