Overview

We are seeking a reliable and motivated Temporary Factory Operative – Bindery Assistant to join our manufacturing team. This role offers an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a busy production environment, supporting the binding and finishing processes of our products. The position is suitable for individuals with a keen eye for detail, physical stamina, and an interest in manufacturing operations.

Responsibilities:

  • To assist the Bindery Operators with a range of tasks.
  • Adhering to the Company’s Health & Safety policies and procedures, including the Safe Systems of Work.
  • General housekeeping of the machine and the Bindery department.

When working as a Temporary Bindery Assistant there are a range of tasks that you may be required to carry out as follows:

  • Assisting on the Gatherer machine on a binding line by loading in bundles of text.
  • Assisting on a casing-in line by feeding in cased book blocks.
  • Assisting on the Guillotines by preparing stacks of product for the Guillotine Operator to cut.
  • Time of year specific and with the correct fork truck licence, Temporary Bindery Assistants can work as a Bindery Porter.
  • Time of year specific and with inhouse training, a Temporary Bindery Assistant can work as an operator on the Spray Booth.
  • To undertake general tasks as instructed by Bindery staff and management.

Skills

  • Mechanical knowledge or experience with machinery operation is advantageous
  • Proficiency with hand tools and power tools used in fabrication and assembly processes
  • Experience in sewing or fabric handling is beneficial but not essential
  • Familiarity with warehouse procedures or previous warehouse experience is desirable
  • Ability to perform heavy lifting safely and efficiently throughout shifts
  • Strong attention to detail with a focus on quality control during production tasks
  • Good organisational skills to manage multiple tasks within tight deadlines
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team in a fast-paced environment
