The Role

Brayleys Cars Limited, a rapidly growing and ambitious business in the automotive industry, is seeking a committed and knowledgeable Group Health and Safety Manager to lead and manage our health and safety operations across multiple sites. In this key leadership role, you’ll ensure full compliance with health and safety regulations, manage safety documentation, coordinate training, and foster a positive safety culture across sales, service, and workshop operations. You’ll be joining an expanding business that represents Honda Passenger Cars, Honda Motorcycles, Nissan, KIA, Mazda, Hyundai, Renault, Dacia and Suzuki across London, The Home Counties, The Thames Valley, The West Midlands and the Greater Manchester area.

Key Responsibilities

Your responsibilities will encompass both strategic leadership and operational management, requiring a proactive and hands-on approach to daily activities while steering the business toward sustained long-term success. You will carry out these duties with the full support of your Corporate Services Director and the resources of our head office functions, and will be expected to:

  • Develop and implement a Group-wide health and safety strategy aligned with business goals, operational risks, and regulatory obligations.
  • Ensure compliance with UK health and safety legislation (including but not limited to the following: Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, PUWER, COSHH, RIDDOR) across all sites. Maintain robust internal controls, reporting, and audit trails.
  • Create, update, and roll out H&S policies, procedures, and training across all dealerships and support functions. Ensure practical application on the ground.
  • Oversee the identification, assessment and mitigation of risks within workshops, sales environments, logistics, and administrative areas.
  • Lead investigations into accidents, incidents, and near-misses. Identify root causes, report findings, and drive improvements to prevent recurrence.
  • Champion a proactive safety culture by engaging managers, team leaders and employees at all levels. Drive behavioural safety campaigns and recognition programmes.
  • Manage and develop the Health & Safety team, including regional advisors or site leads, to ensure consistent standards and support across the Group.
  • Provide regular reports to the board and senior leadership team on H&S performance, trends, incidents, and actions. Track KPIs and use data to inform decisions.
  • Ensure contractors, suppliers, and service providers adhere to Group safety standards and legal requirements.
  • Work with relevant stakeholders to support ESG initiatives, including waste reduction, emissions reporting, and environmental compliance where applicable.

Required Skills and Experience

  • Proven experience as a senior H&S professional, ideally within multi-site automotive retail, logistics, manufacturing or a similarly regulated environment.
  • CMIOSH
  • NEBOSH Diploma (or equivalent).
  • Strong knowledge of UK health and safety legislation and its application in retail and workshop settings.
  • Demonstrable success in building a positive safety culture and influencing senior stakeholders.
  • Experience leading a team and managing across complex organisational structures.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to write concise board reports and deliver training.
