Job Overview
The Director of Grounds & Courses is responsible for the overall management, maintenance, and improvement of the golf course and country club grounds. This role ensures that the golf course and club grounds are in optimal condition for play and meets the aesthetic and functional expectations of golfers, members and visitors. The director will lead a team of grounds staff, manage resources efficiently, and implement sustainable practices to enhance the course's playability and appearance.

Key Responsibilities

The Director of Grounds and Golf Courses will oversee and implement the following tasks and policies :

Course Maintenance:
- Oversee the daily maintenance of all turf areas, including greens, tees, fairways, and roughs.
- Monitor turf health, diagnosing and treating diseases and pests as needed.

- Develop and implement maintenance schedules for grass cutting, aeration, irrigation, fertilization, and pest control.
- Monitor turf health and make recommendations for improvements based on agronomic principles.

Team Management:
- Lead, Recruit, train, and supervise grounds maintenance staff, providing training and development opportunities.
- Schedule and assign daily tasks to ensure efficient operations.

- Foster a positive team environment, promoting collaboration and high performance
- Conduct staff meetings and provide ongoing training in best practices.

- Manage staff schedules, performance evaluations, and any HR-related tasks

Budget Management:
- Prepare and manage the annual budget for the golf course maintenance.
- Monitor spending and ensure all operations are within budget.
- Source and manage vendors for supplies and equipment.

Course Improvement Projects:
- Oversee and plan course renovations and improvements, including landscaping and irrigation upgrades.
- Collaborate with The Board on long-term development plans.

Equipment Management:

- Oversee the maintenance and repair of all grounds maintenance machinery and equipment
- Ensure that equipment is in safe working order and maintained to industry standards.
- Coordinate and schedule regular servicing and repairs to minimize downtime.

Woodland and Landscape Management:
- Oversee and plan the maintenance of woodlands and natural areas, ensuring biodiversity and ecological health.
- Implement maintenance, landscaping projects and improvements, enhancing the aesthetic appeal of the site including the entrances, driveways, driving range, practice areas, marquee site, lodge site, and areas around the clubhouse.

Environmental Stewardship:
- Implement sustainable practices to minimize environmental impact.
- Ensure compliance with local regulations regarding chemical applications and waste disposal.

- Collaborate with environmental agencies and stakeholders on conservation initiatives.

Communication:
- Serve as the primary point of contact for all course-related inquiries.
- Communicate with golfers, club members, and management regarding course conditions and improvements.

Health and Safety Compliance:
- Ensure all activities comply with health and safety regulations and best practices.
- Conduct regular safety inspections and risk assessments of the grounds and equipment.
- Develop and implement safety training programs for staff.

Record Keeping and Reporting:
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, safety inspections, and equipment servicing.
- Prepare reports for management on grounds conditions, maintenance needs, and team performance.
- Stay updated with industry trends, technologies, and best practices in grounds maintenance.

It is the responsibility of the Director of grounds and golf courses to report regularly to the main board on matters relating to the above. In addition they will be expected to contribute to strategy development at board meetings.
