ABM is currently recruiting for a 12 Months Fixed Term Contract Waste Supervisor for an immediate start working for a shipbuilding sector located in Queens Island, Belfast.


To be responsible for inspecting, testing, and maintaining emergency lighting systems to ensure compliance with safety regulations and standards. Contribute to the safety and security of the facility, helping to protect both employees and assets in the event of an emergency.

Responsibilities / duties:

The successful candidate will be responsible for but not limited to:

  • Support Waste Manager as required (including reporting, inspection, team organisation & workload).
  • Decant/empty waste receptacles as required and ensure waste streams are segregated properly.
  • Ensure adherence to work schedules.
  • Inspect equipment & waste areas – ensure all checks are completed & defects reported promptly.
  • Develop & maintain measures to improve waste segregation for recycling.
  • Audit/check waste segregation performance & identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Coordinate provision of bins, skips and collections by waste contractors.
  • Liaise with Waste Manager and others to deliver customer satisfaction.
  • Ensure waste management does not disrupt client operations.
  • Maintain IBC register.
  • Maintain waste related labelling & signage.
  • Support communication & awareness activities as required.
  • Organise & support absentee cover, where necessary.
  • Review & adhere to safe systems of work, policies & procedures.
  • Adhere to a ‘clean as you go’ approach.
  • Wear PPE as directed and maintain in good condition and support PPE coordination for team.
  • Safely operate balers & compactors and other equipment (e.g. for cardboard or plastic).
  • Maintain good housekeeping of all waste areas (including signage & labelling).

Candidate requirements:

  • Licensed forklift operative (counter balance).
  • Full Irish Drivers Licence
  • Experience within the waste industry.
  • Has worked at a manufacturing facility.
  • Previous Supervisor/foreman experience.
  • Excellent Customer service skills with a customer focus and a proven record of working within a customer facing role.
  • Fluent in the English language with excellent communication skills both written and verbal.
  • Strong leadership, motivational and organisational skills, not to mention the ability to delegate.
  • Experience working within a results-oriented environment.
  • IT literate including knowledge of Word, Excel and Outlook.
