Full job description

Title: Transport Planner (waste management)
Reports to: Transport Operations Manager
Job role:
You will be required to manage a number of vehicles and drivers in accordance with the day-to-day requirements of the company, dealing with any transport/operational issues ensuring smooth running and complete customer satisfaction.

Key responsibilities and accountabilities:

  • Plan daily routes and schedules for skip loader vehicles, ensuring efficient delivery, exchange, and collection of skips across the service area.
  • Evaluate and select the most efficient routes, balancing cost, fuel use, driver hours, and customer requirements.
  • Communicate with customers to confirm timings, resolve issues, and ensure service expectations are met.
  • Allocate jobs to drivers and update them throughout the day with any changes, delays, or new instructions.
  • Use software to input job data, update schedules, and track vehicle movements.
  • Liaise with the transport, operations, and accounts teams to ensure smooth workflow and accurate job recording.
  • Respond to operational issues such as missed collections, or urgent customer requests.
  • Maintain accurate records of jobs, vehicle usage, and customer interactions.

What we're looking for:

  • Experience in transport planning, skip hire, waste management, or logistics (preferred).
  • Strong route‑planning and problem‑solving skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment with frequent changes.
  • Excellent communication and customer‑service skills.
  • Competent with IT systems such as routing software, Microsoft Office, and traffic‑management systems.
  • Knowledge of HGV operations, local geography, and transport compliance (CPC understanding is beneficial).
