Full job description

Treadlighter Ltd is a specialist rooftop Solar PV and Battery storage Installer, based in London SW18 5JL. We have been installing Solar PV Systems for fifteen years and are professional and agile, with a goal of building a sustainable workforce. We design, install & maintain Solar PV and Battery Storage systems for commercial & domestic buildings throughout Greater London & the SE.

Overview:

The qualified electrician is responsible for designing, installing and testing Photovoltaic (PV) and Battery Storage (BS) systems and Electric Vehicle (EV) Charging points at domestic and commercial properties according to a detailed project specification. A trainee / junior electrician will work alongside the engineer on many jobs and the engineer must be able to delegate to and supervise the trainee’s work.

The role requires a current edition full BS7671 qualification and the ability to work on both domestic and commercial sites, including holding a valid ECs Gold card or equivalent.

Specific qualifications for PV or EV systems are useful but as not a pre-requisite as all necessary training will be arranged to cover the equipment we install.

Pre-requisite Knowledge:

The electrician must :

· Be a fully qualified electrician with minimum 3 years hands-on experience of working to BS7671 on 3PH systems in a commercial setting.

· Hold a Gold ECS card or equivalent

· The ability to install, test & commission PV, Battery Storage & EV electrical circuits.

· Hold a full UK driving license.

Job Details:

Every PV, BS & EV installation job comprises a series of the activities set out below. Based upon a detailed requirements specification the engineer must be able to complete all of these tasks unsupervised, safely and to a high standard. As required a trainee electrician will be available to assist with the work.

Activities:

· Understand the requirements and determine the components required to deliver against the design specification.

· Document the circuits and components in a suitable way and liaise with the client or their electrical contractor to plan the installation and interface with any other systems on site.

· Installation and O&M activities. Inspect, test and fault find.

· Recording the values in the company systems for all of the associated test readings to ensure that the system complies with the latest BS7671 requirements

· Set up remote communications for inverters, batteries & meters.

· Document with photographs all of the installed components and ensure that the site is left tidy.

· Report progress on a daily basis for overall job management. Strong communication skills with inhouse engineering team.

Approach & Attitude:

Working safely with electrical equipment is the first and most important consideration in all of our work. But beyond that we take pride in the work we do and try to install every system and well as we possibly can. The means we work cleanly and neatly so that when we leave a site we take everything with us and dispose of waste in the appropriate place. Aligning components accurately, ensuring that cables are straight and well secured are clear indications of a job well done, and we expect that at every installation.

Try to plan ahead and to foresee problems before they arise. It will not always be possible, but take the time at the start of each job to understand fully what is required and make sure you have everything you need before you start. If you don’t properly understand what is required of you, ask. Don’t have a go and hope it will turn out OK. Keep asking questions, the more you ask the faster you will learn and the better electrician you will be.

You will make mistakes, we all do. When that happens you will be judged by how you deal with the mistake not by the fact that you have made it. Do not hide mistakes, ensure that our Installation Manager and or the client is aware of any problems and work with them to find a solution.

Timekeeping is important, we work as a team and your timekeeping can affect everyone on the team. Travelling across London in particular can result in unexpected delays. Leave yourself some spare time and if you cannot avoid being late contact our Installation Manager and let him know in good time.
