Full job description

Due to a number of long term contract wins we are looking to appoint an experienced Plumber and Legionella Control Technician to join the Building Services Team at JH-ME.

The job is a permanent post and would be supporting the Building Services Manager in delivering the plumbing and legionella control maintenance and repairs contracts held at our company - including a number of school trusts, local universities, local authorities and police forces based across the North East and North Yorkshire area.

The starting salary is £28k, 37.5 hours per week Monday to Friday; however this is negotiable based on the candidates relevant experience, and we are able to offer some training to 'top up' skills for the right candidate.

The role will suit a Plumber & Legionella Control Technician who has at least 2 years experience in undertaking plumbing works and water cyclical maintenance, repairs and installation works in domestic and commercial premises - particularly within schools, universities, and other public sector buildings.

The role requires the ability to lead on jobs, to independently plan and deliver work assigned to the highest quality and within given timeframes, and in accordance with all statutory requirements, company policies and industry good practice.

This role is on the ‘front line’ for the business and must therefore always represent the company positively and professionally.

The role is expected to demonstrate initiative, exceptional time management skills and the ability to always meet tight deadlines.

The job also entails liaising with clients onsite whilst undertaking work; therefore, excellent communication skills is essential for the role.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Perform planned preventative maintenance, responsive diagnostic repairs and installations with minimal supervision on:

  • Commercial and domestic hot & cold water systems and plumbing systems
  • Disinfection and monitoring of hot and cold water systems
  • Repairs and installation work on mechanical and domestic plumbing systems
  • Installation, replacement and repairing sanitary products, clearing blockages, isolating supplies, fixing various components

2. Set out jobs and follow a programme of works (where relevant) using knowledge and experience of undertaking similar works, and working to drawings where relevant

3. Complete the appropriate maintenance paperwork, reporting anything that is at risk or dangerous to the office / line manager immediately

4. Perform responsive diagnostic work where relevant with minimal supervision and report on any additional works to be undertaken to the office (including the provision of detailed accurate descriptions/photos/serial numbers for parts and materials, equipment and plant needed to undertake any follow up work)

5. Undertake repairs and installation works as instructed; including requisitioning the appropriate materials, plant and machinery from JH-ME stores or suppliers where relevant

6. Use a PDA to complete and submit clear, accurate job cards and any associated certifications/paperwork for each job undertaken on each day and before leaving the attended site.

7. Ensure all client asset information is collected and recorded on the appropriate paperwork.

8. Ensure that all work carried out is delivered to the highest level of quality in all circumstances

9. Perform a post audit job check when leaving site at end of day/work completed, ensuring the site is left clean, tidy and safe

10. Adhere to all Health & Safety regulations and QHSE company policies at all times - never compromising the customer, other colleagues or yourself

11. Follow Safe Systems of Work, adhering to method statements and mitigating the risks appropriately as set out in the risk assessments

12. Undertake a dynamic ‘Take 2’ risk assessment prior to commencing each job

13. Follow client on-site procedures to gain access to the works to be undertaken

14. Support a customer focused culture, delivering right first time, taking ownership and accountability for the works undertaken

15. Minimise waste and adhere to company environmental policies for the safe disposal of hazardous waste

16. Act in a professional manner at all times whilst on site, following all site procedures and adhering to all standards and codes of conducts as required.

18. Be respectful and positively represent the company

19. Keep up to date with changes in all relevant company policies and legislation, to ensure service delivery is maintained to a high standard, complying with the appropriate regulations

20. Undertake additional hours as may be reasonable and necessary for the effective and efficient performance of their duties and responsibilities

21. Ensure all company assets in your possession are well cared for and maintained, and report any damage, accidents, loss, or other problems immediately to your line manager

22. Be a responsible driver at all times

23. Aid alternative trades in completing work task as required

24. Undertake any training and development deemed necessary

25. Any other duties deemed relevant for the role

Skills, Knowledge and Experience

  • NVQ level 2 & 3 in plumbing or similar/relevant experience
  • Time Served Apprenticeship would be preferred
  • Knowledge & Qualifications in Water Regulations 1999
  • Disinfection & monitoring of Hot & Cold Water Systems
  • Sound knowledge of Health & Safety and COSHH Legislation relevant to the role
  • Computer literate with skills in word, excel, email, internet etc and PDA skills
  • Highly organised, with the ability to manage own jobs for the day and across numerous sites
  • Trustworthy and discreet
  • Able to work on own initiative.
  • Good time management skills
  • Experience of working at a small to medium sized company
  • Used to working to tight deadlines
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills

  • Measuring & Quotation Preparation
  • Legionella Risk Assessment of Hot & Cold Water Systems within buildings
  • Unvented Systems
  • IPAF & PASMA
  • Site Safety or CSCS Health and Safety Scheme or equivalent
