Established in 1963, Walkers Chocolates are proud to be one of the few independent, privately owned confectionary manufacturers in the UK. Our purpose-built manufacturing site includes several automated and robotic production lines which allows us to manufacture and supply chocolate products for some of the UK’s biggest retailers, as well as clients worldwide.

At Walkers Chocolates, we believe that each employee contributes directly to the growth and success of the company, and we are now recruiting for experienced Production Team Leaders to join our team. This will be on a fixed-term contract basis initially but may lead to permanent employment.

Job Overview
To oversee and co-ordinate the activities of production teams, ensuring efficient operations and the achievement of production goals. Responsible for managing team performance, maintaining quality standards and enforcing safety protocols. Duties include organising work schedules, staffing and production sequences to maximise productivity and troubleshoot production issues.

Responsibilities

  • Supervising and leading the production team including assigning tasks, providing guidance and fostering a positive and productive work environment.
  • Ensuring quality and efficiency by monitoring production processes, identifying areas for improvement, and implementing solutions to optimise output and minimise waste.
  • Ensuring the maximum efficiency and effectiveness of the production area by proactively managing major line changes, i.e. changeovers, start-ups and engineering interventions.
  • Maintaining safety standards by enforcing safety regulations and conducting safety training to ensure a safe working environment for all team members.
  • Ensuring production targets are met by managing resources and co-ordinating production schedules.
  • Completing QA paperwork checks, including any CCP’s and escalating non-conformances with quality or line performance.
  • Training new employees and providing on-going coaching and feedback to team members.
  • Identifying and resolving production issues and implementing corrective actions to prevent future problems.
  • Effectively communicating with team members, other departments (such as planning and engineering) and management.
  • Maintaining production records, preparing performance reports and communicating relevant information to stakeholders.

Skills & Experience

  • Previous experience of working within a production team ideally within a food manufacturing or production environment.
  • Previous Quality Assurance or Control experience ideally within a food manufacturing or production environment.
  • Able to motivate, guide and direct a team to achieve common goals.
  • Strong problem solving skills with the ability to identify and analyse production issues, develop solutions and implement corrective actions.
  • Technical knowledge with a good understanding of production processes, equipment and quality standards within an FMCG manufacturing environment.
  • Adaptable and flexible with the ability to adjust to changing production demands, troubleshoot unexpected problems and adapt to new technologies or processes.
