Full job description

We are seeking a hardworking and reliable Scrap Metal Labourer to join our team. The successful candidate will assist with the sorting, processing, and handling of scrap metal while maintaining a safe and organised work environment. This role involves manual labour, operating basic equipment, and working both indoors and outdoors.

Key Responsibilities

  • Sort and separate ferrous and non-ferrous metals.
  • Load and unload scrap materials from vehicles and containers.
  • Assist with the dismantling and processing of scrap metal.
  • Operate hand tools and basic machinery safely and efficiently.
  • Keep the yard clean, tidy, and free from hazards.
  • Follow all health and safety procedures, including the correct use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Assist customers delivering scrap materials when required.
  • Identify and remove non-recyclable or hazardous materials.
  • Support other team members with general yard duties as required.
  • Report equipment faults, safety concerns, or incidents to supervisors.

Skills and Experience

Essential

  • Good level of physical fitness and ability to perform manual handling tasks.
  • Reliable, punctual, and able to work as part of a team.
  • Strong awareness of health and safety practices.
  • Willingness to work outdoors in all weather conditions.

Desirable

  • Previous experience in recycling, waste management, construction, or a scrapyard environment.
  • Forklift licence (or willingness to obtain one).
  • Experience operating loading equipment or machinery.
  • Basic knowledge of different metal types and recycling processes.

Working Conditions
