Position: Full Stack Developer
Location: Birmingham Jewellery Quarter

Introduction to the Agency

Cake Agency, recently awarded the fast-growth award at the West Midlands Business Masters Awards, is excited to announce that we are recruiting for a new role of Full Stack developer.

We are an award-winning ecommerce consultancy helping clients grow their brand online.

We offer all round, holistic support to clients in the ecommerce space from business consultancy, branding, marketing to front and back-end development. We primarily develop in Shopify for our website development and are looking for a candidate to join our development department (known as Code Cake) to support the backend requirements of existing clients and to help on new projects where specific functionality behind the scenes is needed.

We work closely with a number of exciting fashion brands who are pushing the boundaries of their ecommerce experience and we need a team of ambitious and agile developers to help bring these aspirations to life.

Based in the heart of the Jewellery Quarter you will be joining a team of 20 ecommerce enthusiasts and part of 5 full-time developers and growing!

Requirements:

As a Full Stack Developer you will be expected to meet minimum criteria in terms of your coding capabilities.

The following provides a list of duties which you are expected to carry out.

  • Working with the development team to develop web & eCommerce solutions
  • Design and develop front-end and back-end web application solutions
  • Build internal products and solutions for clients
  • Contributing to and authoring software design specs in multiple parts of the stack
  • Coding new features within the existing system
  • Coding new and critical pieces of the system
  • Participating at the highest level on the Technology team to continuously improve our development process
  • Participating in a Scrum development methodology
  • Reviewing code from other team members
  • Mentoring team members in coding and process best practices
  • Leading the team in translating user stories and other requirements into clear and focused implementation plans
  • Promote consistency of work across Clients

Technically:

Must haves-

  • Strong HTML, Javascript, SCSS and PHP knowledge
  • Experience using server side javascript runtimes such as Node, Bun, Deno etc.
  • Experience writing web server applications using Express.js
  • Good understanding of relational databases such as MySQL, MariaDB etc.
  • Familiarity with managing Linux based web servers using SSH
  • Experience with third party integrations using REST / GraphQL API
  • Experience with modern PHP frameworks such as Laravel
  • Ability to effectively write database queries with and without the aid of query builder tools.
  • Desire to advance knowledge and willingness to learn new technologies / programming languages if necessary
  • Great problem solving skills, the ideal candidate must have the ability to think outside the box

Good to haves-

  • Experience writing one-use scripts to automate tasks
  • Familiarity with modern Javascript frameworks, preferably React.js
  • Experience managing AWS EC2 instances and S3 storage
  • Understanding of Wordpress development
  • Good understanding of Shopify’s Liquid templating language for Shopify theme development

Summary

After a successful probationary period you will be given allowances to qork in a hybrid way and to work from home for a portion of your working week.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: £30,000.00-£38,000.00 per year
