Full job description

Orlight is a leading British lighting manufacturer, delivering premium architectural lighting solutions to commercial and residential markets. With a strong and growing digital presence across our B2B and B2C platforms, we’re investing in a complete visual and front-end refresh to align our digital experience with our brand's reputation for design and performance.

We are seeking a highly skilled and creatively driven Web Designer / Front-End Web Designer to join our in-house team in St Albans. This is a full-time, on-site role where you will own both the creative direction and hands-on implementation of website improvements.

You will lead the redesign of homepages, landing pages, product and project showcases across both our B2B and B2C websites. Your role will involve designing compelling visual assets, writing clean CSS/HTML, improving layout structure, and elevating overall usability and accessibility — all while working within the limitations of our existing CMS and architecture.

This role blends creativity with technical execution. You’ll collaborate with marketing and product teams, but take full ownership of turning ideas into live design. If you thrive at the intersection of design and code, this role offers real impact and autonomy.

Responsibilities

  • Refresh and modernise: homepage layouts, landing pages, product and project showcase areas across both B2B and B2C sites. Develop responsive page structures that enhance brand storytelling, usability, and conversion
  • Visual Asset Creation: Design compelling web graphics, promotional banners, and supporting visuals for campaigns, new product launches, and key categories
  • Front-End Implementation: Write and manage clean, responsive HTML5/CSS3 to apply all visual changes within the CMS framework
  • Mobile & Cross-Browser Design: Ensure layouts scale elegantly across mobile, tablet, and desktop; test thoroughly across browsers
  • Accessibility & UX Improvements: Enhance usability and engagement through better layout hierarchy, consistent styling, and adherence to WCAG accessibility standards
  • CMS Management: Work creatively within an existing content management system, adapting predefined templates to deliver high-impact designs
  • Quality Assurance: Conduct thorough QA and visual testing to ensure designs are delivered with polish, accuracy, and consistency
  • Ownership & Collaboration: Manage projects independently from concept to code, while working alongside internal teams to align on visual goals and content needs

Requirements

  • 5+ years’ experience in web design and front-end coding
  • Strong HTML/CSS skills and understanding of responsive, mobile-first design principles
  • Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator) for visual asset creation
  • Comfortable using Figma or Adobe XD for layout and prototyping
  • Experience working within a CMS environment (e.g. WordPress, Magento, or bespoke systems)
  • Strong attention to detail with a great sense for layout, spacing, and typography
  • Awareness of accessibility (WCAG) and modern UX principles

Nice to Have

  • Basic JavaScript/jQuery
  • Experience in e-commerce, product, or manufacturing websites
  • Familiarity with performance optimisation and SEO-aware design

What You'll Get

  • Competitive salary: £40,000 – £50,000 depending on experience
  • Full-time, on-site role at our St Albans HQ (easily commutable from London and surrounding areas)
  • Clear ownership of website design execution — from concept to code
  • The opportunity to shape the visual presence of a leading UK lighting brand across multiple platforms

Apply now with your CV and a portfolio showcasing examples of web design and front-end implementation. Shortlisted candidates will be invited for an interview and design review.
