The Role

A growing technology business based in Herefordshire is looking for an Application Software Developer to join its team.

This is a varied, hands-on role suited to someone with experience in software development, web development, application development or analyst programming. You will be working alongside another Software Developer and the wider technical team, helping to design, build, test, integrate and improve software applications across the business.

The position would suit someone who enjoys more than just heads-down coding. You will be involved in understanding requirements, developing solutions, testing applications, resolving issues, supporting system integration and working with users and stakeholders to ensure applications meet business needs.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, maintain and improve software applications

  • Work with users and stakeholders to understand requirements

  • Translate requirements into practical software solutions

  • Write clean, maintainable and flexible code

  • Test applications and resolve bugs or technical issues

  • Support integration between systems, applications and equipment

  • Maintain and update application databases

  • Improve existing applications to enhance functionality and performance

  • Support application release, QA and testing processes

  • Create prototypes and present technical ideas where required

  • Troubleshoot software and application issues

  • Work closely with colleagues across different technical and operational areas

Skills and Experience

Essential:

  • Experience in software development, web development or application development

  • JavaScript, PHP and HTML experience

  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills

  • Ability to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical users

  • Comfortable working in a collaborative team environment

  • Able to manage changing priorities and work to deadlines

  • Strong attention to detail

Desirable:

  • SQL experience, including MySQL or MS SQL / T-SQL

  • CSS

  • Debian or Linux exposure

  • Experience with testing, QA or release processes
