Full job description
Are You Ready to Lead, Innovate, and Disrupt?
At Dirty Martini, we don’t just create websites, we craft digital experiences that captivate, convert, and push boundaries. Our clients don’t come to us for the ordinary; they choose us because our extraordinary work helps them stand out. If you’re looking for a role that challenges you, pushes creative boundaries, and puts you in the driving seat of a department destined for big things, this is it.
We’re looking for someone who isn’t just technically brilliant but also bold, ambitious, and ready to take ownership of our web development department. This is your opportunity to not only build incredible projects, but also shape the future of an agency that’s already leading the way. Some of our recent projects include... Welstead, New Space, InExeter, Maxima. Gaining x2 Awwwards Honourable Mentions, x3 CSS Design Awards, x1 Mindsparkle SOTD, x2 Exeter Living Awards.
More Than Just Coding
You'll play a crucial role in delivering high-end, immersive digital experiences for luxury brands, leading hotels, Michelin-starred restaurants, and high-end construction companies. Working closely with our Creative Director and design team, you’ll collaborate on refining stunning, interactive prototypes before taking full ownership of development - transforming bold concepts into pixel-perfect, high-performance WordPress and Shopify experiences.
You'll need to have a solid grasp of PHP, HTML, JavaScript, and CSS, along with a wealth of experience in developing WordPress plugins and themes. If you have some familiarity with Shopify, that would be a great bonus!
Ideal Experience:
✔ WordPress (Custom Development)
✔ PHP, MySQL, ACF
✔ JavaScript (including GSAP, jQuery, CoreJS, Lenis, Swiper)
✔ Shopify (Liquid & custom theme development)
✔ HTML, CSS, SCSS
✔ Git version control
Bonus points for understanding or willingness to learn:
➕ Next.js, Nuxt.js, Vue.js
➕ Tailwind CSS
➕ Umbraco, Craft CMS, Yii
➕ Three.js & animation frameworks
➕ Vercel, React
➕ Webpack and SCSS (Sass)
➕ RESTful APIs
Key Responsibilities:
✔︎ Providing technical advice during project specification and development stages.
✔ Collaborate closely with designers and strategists to create digital experiences that wow.
✔ Develop industry-leading WordPress and Shopify websites for incredible clients.
✔︎ Developing custom WordPress & Shopify themes.
✔ Turn beautiful Adobe XD & Figma designs into stunning website experiences.
✔ Push the creative limits of code, thinking beyond templates and standard solutions.
✔ Ensure high performance, security, and scalability across all projects.
✔︎ Providing time estimates and updates to project managers.
✔ Maintain hosting environments - optimising performance, implementing security best practices, and managing DNS.
✔︎ Maintaining and updating existing websites.
✔︎ Review processes for internal processes to ensure improved efficiencies and best practices.
✔ Experiment with new technologies and solutions to keep us at the cutting edge.
✔ Train and mentor junior developers and team members.
✔︎ Creating optimal user journeys regardless of browsing device.
✔︎ Identifying and resolving technical issues.
✔ Contribute to thought leadership including contributing to blogs, case studies, and award submissions.
Requirements
This is the perfect role for either an experienced developer or a fast-learning middle-weight developer to join us (or even a superhero dev with a proven track record). You’ll be working on an exciting selection of projects, each one varying in terms of its designs and complexities.
Reporting to the Creative Director, you’ll be heading up our web development services, surrounded by a super-supportive and nurturing team, eager to help you grow. You’ll have massive amounts of autonomy and responsibility and thrive on developing the department into your own.
We love people that are hungry to succeed, driven, inquisitive, enjoy problem-solving and share our vision to build a global agency working with the world's most ambitious brands. Uni degrees, qualifications and experience are not the be-all and end-all for us, we're far more focused on finding the person who shares our passion, drive and determination.
Benefits
✔ Competitive salary
The salary guide is up to £45,000.00 per year, depending on person. We say depending on person, as it’s far more than just experience that’s important. Every person is unique, so we strive to find the best match for both company and candidate. We value what each individual brings to us and reward that accordingly, so rather than putting strict salary schedules here, we’d far rather have a chat and find out what each of us is looking for.
✔ Latest MacBooks / Mac Studio kit.
✔ Flexible schedule.
✔ Monday to Friday.
✔ No weekends.
✔ Company pension.
✔ Awesome city centre location with parking (remote working options for the right candidate).
Perks
✔ 33 days holiday per year including bank holidays.
✔ Monthly Wellness Payment worth £600 per year to use on a subscription of your choice.
✔ Regular free lunches.
✔ Free tea & coffee, morning coffee run by Timber Coffee X Roastworks.
✔ Team outings and socials.
✔ Personal training and professional development allowance.
✔ Annual work anniversary gift.
✔ Christmas party.
✔ Summer party.
✔ Birthday pressies.
Recruitment process
Let’s chat - an informal coffee to see if there's a spark.
Meet the team - a deeper dive into the role and your experience.
Final interview / challenge - a chance to show us what you’ve got.
This is your chance.
A chance to lead, create, and make a name for yourself in an agency that doesn’t settle for second-best.
Ready to build something incredible? Apply now.
