Full job description
Before you apply
We get a lot of applications. Most don't make it past the first 30 seconds.
Here is exactly what we look for, read this before you do anything else.
Your portfolio is the only thing that matters at this stage. Include a clear link to your online portfolio or attach a PDF. No portfolio means no review. That's it. We are not looking for a CV full of certifications. We are looking at your work.
You need real, sustained experience. At least three years working as a graphic designer, with meaningful time spent working for an established brand or agency, not just dribs and drabs of freelance work. We need people who understand what it means to own a brand day to day, not just dip in and out when it suits them.
You must be based in South Africa. Non-negotiable. If you're not, your application will be automatically rejected. Our team are split between the UK and SA meaning we work in a timezone that gives meaningful daily overlap. That matters operationally and it's not something we will flex on.
Your English must be excellent. Written and spoken. You will be communicating directly with global based clients every single day. Unclear communication is not something we can work around.
If all of that is you, keep reading.
Who is Quarterly?
Quarterly is an embedded design studio. We place dedicated designers inside our clients' teams, working in their tools, joining their calls, and delivering work every single day. Not as an agency. Not as a freelancer. As a proper part of their team.
We work with established, growing businesses across the UK. Our clients are marketing teams at companies at established brands, the kind of businesses that have real budgets, real brand standards, and real expectations. They rely on us like they would an in-house designer, because that is effectively what we are.
We are 19 people, designers, creative leads, and a creative director, split across the UK and South Africa. Our SA team is a core part of what we do, not a cheaper afterthought. Same quality. Same standards. Same accountability.
The role
You will work across a range of clients and brands daily. Branding, social creative, presentations, web assets, print, ads — the full range of what a busy marketing team needs. Think of it like being an in-house designer for few different companies at once.
You will know those brands inside out. You will talk to those clients directly. You will be the person they rely on to deliver, consistently, day after day.
This is not a ticket-in-a-queue job. You will manage your own workload, communicate proactively, and take ownership of your output. Every piece of work goes through a creative lead before it is delivered to the client, so you will always have support, but you need to be the kind of designer who does not need to be managed into doing good work.
What you will be doing
- Creating on-brand, high-quality design work across a wide range of disciplines — logo and brand identity, digital ads, social content, presentations, print, packaging, web assets, and more
- Working within a team of four to six designers, proofing each other's work and raising the bar together
- Managing multiple live projects at once, keeping clients informed and delivering on time
- Communicating directly with your clients and collaborating with creative leads across the UK and South Africa
Every brief is different. Every day moves quickly. If you like variety, ownership, and doing genuinely good work, you will thrive here.
What we are looking for
The non-negotiables:
- Based in South Africa with the legal right to work here
- At least three years of professional experience as a graphic designer, with meaningful time spent working for established brands
- A portfolio that shows range, craft, and attention to detail — if you cannot show us work you are proud of, we cannot take your application further
- Proficient in Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign. All three. Not one or two.
- Excellent written and spoken English — you will be client-facing, daily
- Able to juggle multiple live projects without letting quality slip
- Proactive communicator — you keep people informed, you do not wait to be chased
What will make you stand out:
- Proficiency in Figma, PowerPoint, or After Effects
- Experience working in a fast-paced agency or in-house environment where quality and speed both mattered
- A track record of working directly with clients or stakeholders, not just internal teams
What we are not looking for
We will be direct about this because it saves everyone time.
We are not looking for designers who are still building their portfolio. We are not looking for people whose "experience" is mostly personal projects or course work. We are not looking for designers who need significant hand-holding on client communication. And we are not looking for people who think "good enough" is an acceptable standard.
If your portfolio is weak, do not apply. If your experience is primarily self-taught with limited professional work, do not apply. We would rather see fewer applications from the right people than hundreds from the wrong ones.
Why Quarterly?
You will be part of a real team. 19 people across the UK and South Africa. Not a faceless platform. A studio that genuinely cares about craft, culture, and the people behind the work.
You will work remotely. Fully remote setup. Work from wherever you do your best work.
You will grow. Regular workshops, direct mentorship from creative leads, and honest feedback that actually makes you better. You will learn from talented people every single day.
You will be trusted. No micromanagement. No egos. We hire good people and let them do good work. We are honest with each other, we back each other up, and we hold ourselves to a high standard.
You will have impact. This is a profitable, growing studio, not a bloated agency. Your work matters here. Your voice is heard.
Pay and practicalities
- Salary: R350,000–R450,000 per year, depending on experience
- Leave: 24 days annual leave, plus UK public holidays
- Contract: Permanent role. As we do not have a registered entity in South Africa, payment is made via invoice. By applying, you confirm you are comfortable handling your own tax obligations under South African law.
- Hours: 10:00-18:00 SAST
- Culture: Collaborative, multi-cultural, takes the work seriously without taking itself too seriously
