About Absowebly

Absowebly is a boutique web engineering agency specializing in bespoke, cutting-edge software solutions for diverse commercial clients across the UK and Ireland. We design, architect, and deploy high-impact software systems - ranging from innovative Mobile Ticketing Systems to large-scale Booking Management & eCommerce Platforms. We are not afraid to try new ideas and solve complex problems, made possible through our custom architecture and proprietary SaaS platform.

We are a close-knit, highly capable team of 9, including 6 developers / engineers. To support our expanding portfolio of high-visibility projects, we are looking for a Senior / Lead Full-Stack Developer to take ownership of end-to-end technical delivery and work directly alongside our Technical Director.

The Role: Technical Leadership & Delivery

As a Senior / Lead Developer, you won't just write code - you will own software delivery from initial concept through to deployment and maintenance. You will act as a primary technical anchor within the development team, bridging technical execution with client objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • End-to-End Project Ownership: Take lead responsibility for delivery timelines, architectural decisions, and feature scope across bespoke client applications.
  • Client & Stakeholder Collaboration: Work directly with business clients to gather requirements, translate operational needs into technical specifications, and present solution options clearly.
  • Technical Architecture & Coding: Write clean, efficient PHP/MySQL code. Architect robust backends, design efficient relational database schemes, and craft complex queries.
  • Mobile & Hybrid App Maintenance: Maintain and enhance cross-platform mobile apps built using Apache Cordova or REST-connected wrappers.
  • Quality & Collaboration: Perform thorough debugging, code reviews, and system testing. Mentor junior team members to provide high standards and champion clean code.
  • Platform Evolution: Collaborate with the Technical Director to expand and maintain our core in-house SaaS platform.

How Our Team Operates

We operate in an energetic, hands-on environment where engineers take genuine pride in crafting pragmatic, cutting-edge software. You will work as part of our core team of 6 developers (alongside Design & Marketing colleagues) where innovation & speed are valued over bureaucracy, and collaboration is continuous. While the Technical Director sets overall strategic direction, you will be given autonomy to drive projects forward, make technical decisions, and embrace emerging tech (including AI tools) to help solve client problems directly.

Requirements & Qualifications

Essential Technical Skills:

  • Commercial Experience: 3+ years of full-stack experience, or 2+ years in a fast-paced web agency environment with a track record of rapid progression and project delivery.
  • PHP & MySQL: Strong commercial experience with custom PHP, relational database design, query optimization, and complex data modeling.
  • Core Web Stack: Proficient in semantic HTML5, CSS3, and Vanilla JavaScript (ES6+).
  • Project Leadership: Demonstrable experience (1+ years) taking responsibility for project milestones, client communication, or technical task delegation.
  • Problem Solving: Proven ability to debug legacy codebases, optimize query performance, and troubleshoot production issues methodically.

Desirable Skills:

  • Version Control (Git workflow / branching strategies) and Code Review Processes
  • Apache Cordova or native mobile app maintenance (Android/Java, iOS)
  • RESTful API design & integration
  • DevOps / Linux server setup & administration (Ubuntu / Nginx / Apache)

What We Offer

  • Competitive Compensation: Salary up to £50,000.
  • Career Growth: Direct path to scale your technical leadership responsibilities as projects expand.
  • Comprehensive Benefits: Company pension scheme, extended holiday entitlement, and private health insurance.
  • Working Environment: Modern studio space in Ashford, Surrey, flexible working hours, collaborative team and a non-corporate culture.
  • Varied Workload: Our clients keep us busy with an array of interesting projects & requirements - from low-bandwidth mobile ticketing engines to enterprise booking platforms.
