Job description

As an Apprentice, you'll gain valuable hands-on experience while supporting the work of your team. The activities you undertake will depend on the apprenticeship role you are matched to, but here are some examples of the types of tasks you may be involved in:

Your Responsibilities

  • Customer Communication: You’ll engage with various customers, organisations and suppliers, handling queries face-to-face, by email and over the phone.
  • Meeting Support: You’ll provide essential support at internal and external meetings, including setting up agendas, scheduling appointments and taking notes.
  • Drafting Documents: You’ll write documents and letters that are clear and professional.
  • Event Planning: You’ll arrange and coordinate events and ensure things run smoothly.
  • Data Management: You’ll handle spreadsheets and databases with precision and accuracy.
  • Financial Processing: You’ll process financial payments, ensuring timely and accurate payments.
  • Collaborating with Others: You’ll work closely with other teams within your business area as needed to support operations.

Person specification

We are recruiting 30 Apprentices to join the Welsh Government on an 18-month apprenticeship programme. This is an exciting opportunity to gain valuable workplace experience, develop professional skills and achieve a recognised Level 3 qualification in either Business Administration or Customer Service.

As a Team Support Officer Apprentice, you'll play an important role in supporting teams across Welsh Government, helping them deliver services and achieve the best outcomes for the people of Wales. Throughout the programme, you'll combine practical workplace experience with structured learning and development, building the skills and confidence needed for a successful career.

As part of the apprenticeship, you'll undertake two placements of approximately nine months each in different Welsh Government teams, giving you the opportunity to gain a broad range of experience, develop new skills and build professional networks across the organisation.

You don't need previous office experience or qualifications to apply. We're looking for people with enthusiasm, potential and a willingness to learn. Whether your experience comes from education, volunteering, part-time work, caring responsibilities, sport, community activities or everyday life, we want to hear from you.

Our aim is to support apprentices into long-term careers within the Welsh Government.

Am I eligible

You will meet the following criteria:

  • You will be at least 16 years of age by 1st September 2026. There is no upper age limit.
  • You will not be in full-time education when you start in March 2027.
  • You do not need to hold any formalised qualifications to be eligible to apply for our Apprenticeship campaign.
  • If you already hold a qualification at Level 3 or above in Business Administration or Customer Services, or a similar subject, you may not be eligible for this apprenticeship scheme
  • You will meet the Civil Service Nationality requirements (https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/nationality-rules)and comply with UK immigration legislation (https://www.gov.uk/government/organisations/uk-visas-and-immigration)

We're committed to becoming a fully bilingual organisation and helping increase the use of Cymraeg across Wales. You don't need to speak Welsh when you join us. We'll support you to learn a little Welsh during your apprenticeship, helping you build the confidence to use simple conversational Welsh at work, with learning tailored to your needs and experience.
