Cover Supervisor

15 hours per week (2 days a week), 39 weeks per year.

Salary: BTCT Band 5, points 7-9. Actual Starting Salary: £9,125.95.

Anticipated start: September 2026 (or as soon as possible thereafter)

West Somerset College is seeking a dedicated Cover Supervisor to join our supportive and dynamic team. This role is vital in maintaining continuity of learning during teacher absences, supporting students from Year 9 to Year 11, and contributing to the wider life of the school.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise whole classes during short-term teacher absences, ensuring a calm and productive learning environment.
  • Deliver pre-set lesson instructions and maintain pupil engagement and behaviour.
  • Respond to general student queries and provide feedback to teaching staff.
  • Support with exam invigilation and accompany students on educational visits.
  • Provide administrative and pastoral support when not supervising lessons.
  • Maintain accurate attendance records and manage classroom behaviour in line with school policies.
  • Assist with classroom displays and curriculum-related admin tasks.

What We’re Looking For

We are looking for someone who is:

  • Committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
  • Confident in managing classroom behaviour and supporting a range of learning needs.
  • A strong communicator with excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Flexible, proactive, and a team player.

  • Has GCSE Grade C/4 or above in English and Maths (or equivalent).
  • Has strong ICT and numeracy skills.
  • Able to build positive relationships with students and staff.
