Join Our Growing Team at Jarvie Plant!

Start your career with one of the UK’s leading plant and vehicle hire companies. At Jarvie Plant, we’re committed to developing talent from the ground up — our Apprentice Vehicle Mechanic programme is the perfect way to learn, grow, and build a rewarding future in the industry.

About the Role

As an Apprentice Vehicle Mechanic, you’ll gain practical workshop experience and complete off-site training over a structured 3-year apprenticeship, followed by 1 year time served. You’ll work towards a Level 3 Modern Apprenticeship Qualification in Motor Vehicle Service and Maintenance (Light Vehicle), supported by mentors and our training partner, Remit.

How This Role Supports the Delivery of Hire Solutions

By gaining practical skills and technical knowledge to maintain and repair our rental vehicles to a high standard, you’ll help ensure equipment is safe, downtime is minimised, and customers receive reliable, efficient service. Throughout your apprenticeship, you will develop competence in the following areas:

Vehicle Maintenance, Service, and Repair:

  • Perform servicing, maintenance, and repairs with growing independence
  • Remove, install, replace, and test a variety of vehicle components
  • Operate tools and equipment safely and effectively

Team Collaboration:

  • Work alongside experienced mechanics and absorb their expertise
  • Assist with daily tasks and collaborate across departments
  • Customer Service & Communication:
  • Build communication skills for engaging with customers and colleagues
  • Accurately report maintenance progress and issues

Technical Skills Development:

  • Diagnose and fix mechanical and electrical faults
  • Use diagnostic tools and lifting equipment correctly
  • Understand vehicle manuals and technical documentation

Health and Safety Compliance:

  • Adhere to workshop safety rules and regulations
  • Apply relevant health and safety legislation

Record-Keeping and Documentation:

  • Maintain accurate service and repair records

You will attend scheduled training at college or approved centres, complete coursework, assignments, and exams, and take part in additional learning opportunities to steadily progress toward full qualification as a Vehicle Mechanic.

What Will Make You a Great Fit

  • A genuine interest in vehicles and how they work
  • Eagerness to learn and develop practical skills in servicing and maintaining vehicles
  • Commitment to attending college and completing the theoretical side of the apprenticeship
  • A proactive, can-do attitude and willingness to support the team
  • Awareness of health and safety protocols, with a strong commitment to a safe working environment
  • Good time management skills and the ability to prioritise tasks effectively
  • A focus on delivering high-quality work and maintaining high standards
