Job description
Victim & Witness Liaison Officer
Horizon Team
The Police and Crime Commissioner is committed to putting Victims and Witnesses first, ensuring they receive the right support throughout the Criminal Justice process and are kept informed every step of the way.
This is an exciting opportunity to join the Horizon team and help shape and improve the experience of victims and witnesses, often at a distressing and vulnerable time in their lives. As a Victim & Witness Liaison Officer, you will play a key role in providing guidance, reassurance, and practical support, ensuring individuals feel informed, supported, and empowered throughout their journey.
This is a secondment opportunity for 12 months with a view to go permanent if business demand allows but there is no guarantee at this stage.
About the Role
As a Victim & Witness Liaison Officer, you will act as a dedicated point of contact for victims and witnesses, helping them understand the Criminal Justice System and ensuring they receive timely information and appropriate support.
Working closely with policing departments, Criminal Justice partners, and support services, you will deliver a victim-focused service that places the needs of individuals at the centre of everything you do.
You Will:
Provide dedicated support and guidance to victims and witnesses throughout the Criminal Justice process.
Keep victims and witnesses informed about the progress of their cases, including important court updates and outcomes.
Signpost individuals to relevant support services, specialist organisations, and community resources to meet their identified needs.
Act as a trusted point of contact, offering reassurance and responding sensitively to concerns and enquiries.
Work within a secure and confidential environment, handling sensitive information responsibly and in accordance with data protection requirements.
Manage a personal caseload, prioritising and coordinating multiple cases effectively to ensure high standards of service delivery.
Utilise excellent customer service skills to support individuals who may be distressed, vulnerable, or experiencing challenging circumstances.
Help victims and witnesses understand the Criminal Justice System, explaining processes, expectations, and available support in a clear and accessible way.
Work collaboratively with Criminal Justice partners and other agencies to deliver coordinated support and positive outcomes for victims and witnesses.
Why This Role Matters
For many victims and witnesses, involvement in the Criminal Justice System can be overwhelming, confusing, and emotionally challenging. This role provides an opportunity to make a genuine difference by offering practical support, accurate information, and compassionate guidance at a time when it is needed most.
By ensuring individuals feel heard, supported, and informed throughout their journey, you will help improve confidence in the Criminal Justice System and contribute to better experiences and outcomes for victims and witnesses.
Who We're Looking For
We are seeking organised, empathetic, and resilient individuals who are passionate about supporting others.
You will have:
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Strong customer service experience and the ability to build trust and rapport with a diverse range of people.
The ability to manage competing demands and work effectively under pressure.
Experience of handling sensitive and confidential information with professionalism and discretion.
Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage a varied caseload.
Experience of working with and supporting vulnerable people.
An understanding of, or willingness to develop knowledge of, the Criminal Justice System and victim support pathways.
If you are committed to making a positive difference to the lives of victims and witnesses and want to be part of a dedicated and supportive team, we would love to hear from you.
