The role

Our Short Term Trading team is looking for an experienced European Energy Shift Trader to help shape and optimise SSE's position across interconnected European power markets. Working in a dynamic and supportive environment, you'll analyse market fundamentals, optimise interconnector positions and make informed trading decisions that contribute to SSE's growth, while always maintaining a strong commitment to safety, governance and responsible risk management.

You will

  • Identify, evaluate and execute trading opportunities across day-ahead, intraday and balancing power markets in GB and Europe.
  • Optimise cross-border trading and interconnector positions by assessing market fundamentals, transmission constraints, outages and weather impacts.
  • Analyse key market drivers including renewable generation, demand, fuel markets, system conditions and interconnector availability.
  • Collaborate closely with traders, analysts and quantitative teams to improve trading performance and develop new market opportunities.
  • Promote a culture of safety, compliance and effective risk management, ensuring all trading activity aligns with regulatory and governance requirements.

You have

  • Proven experience trading within short-term European power markets in a commercial trading environment.
  • Strong understanding of power market fundamentals and price formation across GB and/or Central Western European markets.
  • Experience managing cross-border trading opportunities and optimising interconnector positions.
  • Excellent analytical and decision-making skills, with the ability to translate complex information into effective trading strategies.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills, with a collaborative approach and attention to detail in a fast-paced trading environment.
