Full job description

Job Title: Pop-Top Roof Installer / Campervan Conversion Technician

Location: Huddersfield
Job Type: Full-time, Permanent
Salary: depending on experience + Overtime opportunities
Schedule: Monday to Friday (No weekends)
About Us: We are a leading custom vehicle specialist dedicated to building high-quality campervans designed for travel, freedom, and adventure. Known for our attention to detail and premium craftsmanship, our workshop is expanding. We are now looking for a skilled, practical, and hands-on Pop-Top Roof Installer to join our team and help elevate our customer builds.

The Role: Your day-to-day work will focus heavily on structural van modifications, specifically installing elevating pop-top roof systems. You will work both independently and alongside our conversion team to deliver flawless finishes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Vehicle Preparation: Stripping out and protecting vehicle interiors and exterior panels prior to cutting.
  • Roof Cutting & Framing: Measuring, marking, and precisely cutting van shells to accommodate new elevating roofs.
  • Structural Installation: Fitting reinforcing roof frames, strengthening systems, and associated structural components.
  • Roof & Canvas Fitting: Mounting fibreglass/composite pop-top roofs, gas struts, scissor mechanisms, and weather-resistant canvas tents.
  • Interior Finishing: Re-fitting headliners, installing pop-top beds, roof trim, carpet lining, and integrated roof lighting.
  • Quality Assurance: Testing operations to ensure roofs open, close, and weather-seal perfectly to meet strict quality standards.

What We Are Looking For

  • Practical Experience: A solid background in vehicle fitting, automotive bodywork, coachbuilding, joinery, or window fitting. Direct experience with major roof brands (e.g., Austops Pop-Top Roofs, SCA, or Reimo) is a major advantage but not essential.
  • Tool Proficiency: Complete confidence using hand tools, air tools, reciprocating saws, nibblers, and workshop machinery.
  • Precision: High attention to detail with strong measuring, drilling, and cutting accuracy.
  • Physical Fitness: The role involves physical work, including lifting and team-handling large, heavy components.
  • Driving Licence: A full UK driving licence is required to move customer vehicles safely around the workshop.

What We Offer

  • Competitive salary based on your technical skillset.
  • Stable working hours with a standard Monday–Friday routine.
  • Workplace pension scheme and statutory holiday allowance.
  • On-site parking and a casual dress workshop environment.
  • Opportunities to learn advanced conversion skills and grow with a passionate team.

How to Apply: If you take pride in producing high-quality work and want to be part of a growing industry, we want to hear from you! Please send your CV alongside a brief message highlighting any relevant hands-on experience to info@candhcampers.co.uk or call 01484 602415

Pay: From £25,420.00 per year

  • Company pension
  • Free parking
  • On-site parking
