Full job description

Westcott Architectural Glazing is looking for an Assistant Window Fitter / Glazing Installer to join our installation team based in Portsmouth.

This role could suit someone who already has some experience in window fitting, glazing, carpentry or construction, but we are equally interested in a practical and reliable person who wants to learn a skilled trade.

Previous window fitting experience is not essential.

We are a specialist architectural glazing company installing premium aluminium and timber windows, large sliding doors, bi-folding doors, entrance doors and specialist glazed systems from leading European manufacturers including VELFAC, Rationel, Solarlux, Internorm and Spitfire.

We are not a conventional replacement-window company.

The role

You will work alongside experienced installers on high-quality residential and commercial projects.

Your work will include:

  • Assisting with the installation of windows and doors
  • Glazing
  • Handling and positioning frames and glass
  • Preparing openings and installation areas
  • Using hand and power tools
  • Installing trims and carrying out finishing work
  • Protecting customers' properties and finished surfaces
  • Assisting with adjustments and snagging
  • Keeping sites, vans and tools clean and organised
  • Learning to read drawings and installation information
  • Developing your installation skills through practical experience and manufacturer training

This is a physical, practical job and some of the products we install are large and heavy.

What we are looking for

Experience is useful, but attitude is more important for this position.

We are looking for someone who is:

  • Reliable and punctual
  • Practical and comfortable working with their hands
  • Careful and takes pride in their work
  • Willing to learn
  • Able to work well as part of a team
  • Respectful when working in customers' homes
  • Prepared for early starts and travel to different sites
  • Interested in developing a skilled trade

Experience in window fitting, glazing, carpentry, construction, shopfitting or a similar practical trade would be an advantage, but is not required.

A full UK driving licence is preferred.

Employed staff also receive:

  • Paid holiday
  • Workplace pension
  • Overtime opportunities
  • Uniform and PPE
  • Company tools and specialist installation equipment
  • Manufacturer and product training

We are also happy to consider genuinely self-employed applicants. Self-employed rates will be agreed separately depending on experience and ability.

There is a genuine opportunity for the right person to progress from Assistant Installer to Installer and ultimately Lead Installer, with increased pay as skills and responsibility develop.

About Westcott

To apply, please send your CV or a short summary of any practical or construction experience you have and tell us why you are interested in the role.
