Carpenter
Would you like to work with an award-winning boatbuilding company based in waterside offices near Falmouth, Cornwall - the perfect destination for sailors, surfers and beach lovers? Cockwells is a growing company; globally respected in the marine industry and at the forefront of designing and building the highest quality boats, motor launches and tenders. The Company cleverly integrates traditional boatbuilding skills with innovative engineering and modern techniques to build vessels of the highest quality.
We are looking for full-time Carpenters/Boat Builders to join our growing team working 07.00am-17.30pm Monday-Thursday (40 hours per week) on a permanent contract. Overtime may also be available on an ad-hoc basis and is payable at 1.5 x hourly rate.
Job description
The role will include the following:
- Scribing and fitting Joinery parts
- Fitting teak decks
- Fitting external Stainless-steel hardware
- Installation of windows, doors and furnishings
- Using hand and machine tools
- Fitting of GRP parts
- And all other aspects of Boat Assembly
Essential Skills/ Experience
You will ideally have experience as a Boat Builder; however this is not essential as we are keen to hear from experienced 1st & 2nd fix Carpenters, Window Fitters, Shop Fitters, Joiners, and Caravan/Motorhome fitters too!
You will:
- Take pride in, and take responsibility for the work that you do
- Be happy working under supervision, but competent working alone where required
- Be confident using fixed machinery
- Have a keen eye for accuracy
- Possess strong organisational skills
- Have Good practical hand skills – Practical skills we find are often more important than qualifications!
- Have basic knowledge of Health and Safety
- Be hard working and reliable
- Be able to show competence and experience in a variety of boat building skills
Location
The place of work is normally Southwest Shipyard, Ponsharden, Falmouth TR11 2SE or Mylor Creek Boat Yard, Mylor Bridge, TR11 5NS. You should be flexible to work at either location as required.
Salary
A competitive and negotiable rate of up to £16.50 per hour, dependent on skills/experience. The starting salary will be discussed at interview.
