Long-term Teachers, an established education recruitment agency working in partnership with specialist schools across the Bodmin area, is looking for enthusiastic, resilient and passionate individuals to join our team as 1:1 Outdoor Teaching Assistants, supporting students aged 5–16 with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.

This is a fantastic opportunity for individuals who enjoy working outdoors, building positive relationships with young people and delivering education in a creative and engaging way.

The role involves supporting students on a 1:1 basis through Learning Outside the Classroom (LOtC) programmes, taking education beyond the traditional school environment.

You will accompany students on educational outings to beaches, parks, woodlands and other outdoor environments, using practical activities and experiences to help them develop confidence, emotional regulation, social skills and positive engagement with education.

Many of the students you will support may have experienced difficulties within mainstream education, so building trust, providing consistency and creating positive learning experiences will be essential.

Key Responsibilities

• Providing dedicated 1:1 support to students aged 5–16 with SEMH and additional learning needs.
• Supporting students through outdoor learning activities at beaches, parks, woodlands and other community locations.
• Encouraging students to engage with education through practical, creative and activity-based learning.
• Building positive, trusting relationships with students who may struggle within traditional classroom settings.
• Supporting emotional regulation, positive behaviour and social development.
• Helping students develop confidence, resilience, independence and essential life skills.
• Adapting activities to suit individual needs, interests and abilities.
• Transporting students to agreed outdoor learning locations using your own vehicle, in accordance with safeguarding and transport procedures.
• Working closely with teaching staff and specialist professionals to support individual education plans.
• Maintaining a safe, structured and supportive learning environment.

Requirements

• Previous experience supporting children or young people with Special Educational Needs (SEN) is essential.
• Previous experience working within a school or educational setting is desirable.
• A full, clean UK driving licence and access to your own vehicle are essential.
• A genuine passion for outdoor education and supporting young people with additional needs.
• A patient, resilient and adaptable approach to challenging situations.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships.
• Confidence working independently and supporting students on a 1:1 basis.
• A good understanding of safeguarding and professional boundaries.
• A willingness to participate in outdoor activities in a variety of weather conditions.
