Full job description
Join Our Growing Team
We are a fast-growing estate planning firm with a reputation for exceptional client care and high-quality drafting. Our mission is to give clients peace of mind by helping them plan confidently for the future.
As the business continues to grow, we are looking for experienced private client paralegals or qualified will writers to join our friendly, fully remote team. This is an opportunity for someone who enjoys working independently, takes pride in producing work of the highest standard, and wants a real hand in shaping the quality of our service.
We are open on how you work with us. We will consider employed, full or part-time, or self-employed and consultancy arrangements. So if you already run your own will writing practice and have capacity, or you want a steady stream of drafting work without giving up your independence, we are happy to talk.
The Role
Working remotely, you will manage your own client caseload from instruction through to completion, communicating with clients by telephone, email and video. Alongside drafting Wills and Lasting Powers of Attorney, you will carry out quality assurance reviews of documents prepared by colleagues, give technical guidance where appropriate, and help maintain the standards our clients expect.
Two things make this different from a typical private client role. Our consultants record their instruction-taking, so you draft from the client's own words rather than from someone else's file note. And there are no billable hours and no time recording, so your day is spent on the work rather than on the clock.
Please note we are an estate planning and will writing firm, not a solicitors' practice. We are a member of the Institute of Professional Willwriters and work to its CTSI-approved Code of Practice. We do not undertake probate or estate administration, so this is a pure Wills, LPAs and estate planning role.
Key Responsibilities
- Draft high-quality Wills and LPAs, including Wills incorporating trust provisions, ensuring compliance with current legislation and best practice.
- Review Wills and related documents prepared by colleagues, giving constructive feedback and holding the line on quality.
- Manage your own client caseload efficiently from instruction to completion.
- Conduct client appointments by telephone, email and video.
- Take clear, accurate instructions and explain legal concepts in plain English.
- Maintain and improve our drafting, compliance and quality assurance processes.
- Keep up to date with developments in Wills, trusts and estate planning, including inheritance tax.
- Support, mentor and share knowledge with more junior members of the team.
About You
You are technically strong, highly organised and genuinely committed to client experience. You will have:
- At least five years specialising in England and Wales Wills and estate planning, whether gained in a solicitors' firm, a will writing practice or in-house. Please note that Scottish and Northern Irish succession law does not transfer to this role.
- Significant experience drafting complex Wills, including those involving trusts.
- A strong grasp of Wills, trusts, LPAs and the underlying legal principles.
- One or more of the following, or equivalent experience. We care more about the quality of your drafting than the badge:
- STEP Certificate or Advanced Certificate in Will Preparation.
- Full member or Fellow of the Institute of Professional Willwriters.
- Member, Associate or Fellow of the Society of Will Writers (MSWW, ASWW, FSWW).
- CILEX qualification or part-qualification.
- A recognised paralegal qualification.
- Instruction-taker grades (IPW Associate, SWW Affiliate) are not sufficient on their own, as this is a drafting role.
- Excellent written and verbal communication, and outstanding attention to detail.
- The ability to work independently while being an active, supportive member of a remote team.
- A proactive, professional and client-focused approach.
What We Offer
- Fully remote working, anywhere in England or Wales.
- Employed or self-employed, whichever suits you. Employed: salary depending on experience, full or part-time. Self-employed: day rate or per-document fee, agreed with you.
- For employed colleagues, we pay your professional membership, whether STEP, IPW, SWW or CILEX, and your CPD, and we provide all equipment.
- No billable hours and no time recording.
- A supportive, knowledgeable team and a genuine say in how our processes develop.
- Ongoing professional development and the chance to broaden your expertise.
- The opportunity to join a growing and ambitious business where your expertise is genuinely valued.
How to Apply
If you are an experienced private client paralegal or qualified will writer looking for a rewarding remote role where you can make a real difference, we would love to hear from you.
Please submit:
- Your CV.
- A short cover letter outlining your relevant experience and why you would be a good fit.
- Your availability to start.
- Your salary or fee expectations.
Please Note
This job description gives an overview of the role and its key responsibilities. It is not an exhaustive list of duties, and responsibilities may change from time to time to meet the evolving needs of the business. You may be required to undertake other duties reasonably consistent with the nature and level of the role.
