Outline

This is an outstanding opportunity for an experienced or qualified chemist or technologist to join our established Research and Development team in a new state of the art development laboratory.

Experience of development of lubricants, automotive fluids, greases & surfactant products, dewatering fluids & rust treatments would be desirable, to encompass functional fluids, possible knowledge of hard surface cleaners, I & I products, polymers, etc.

Working closely with our Marketing, New Products & Operations teams, the work will involve seeing a wide variety of development projects through from their initial concept and formulation work, through their development, on to final approval, into production and on to the marketplace.

The candidate must be able to communicate at all levels within this dynamic organisation, provide technical support to Sales, Manufacturing, Purchasing, Quality and Marketing, understanding customers’ needs, in a fiercely competitive market, and resolving these problems as they arise.

Duties will include:

  • Driving the formulation and development of new products, especially in the lubricants & automotive fluids area.
  • Developing new and improved test methods to improve formulations etc.
  • Liaison with suppliers to achieve best performance with modern raw materials.
  • Supporting Sales, Marketing & Export functions in the provision of information for customers.
  • Helping Production/Operations to resolve plant problems as they arise.
  • Specification checking on products and testing/report writing on benchmark products.

Applicants should have:

  • Degree level OR other useful standard in Chemistry or other physical sciences.
  • Previous experience and knowledge of automotive & industrial oils a distinct advantage.
  • A reasonable level of computer literacy.
  • Experience of chemical analysis would be advantageous e.g. FT-IR, XRF, ICP etc.
  • Experience of working with FMCG or industrial chemical products in a lab/customer environment would also be an advantage.
  • An enthusiastic and professional manner.
  • Keen eye for detail with a methodical and logical approach.
  • Ability to work on multiple projects and issues simultaneously to meet deadlines.
  • The ability to communicate confidently and assertively at all levels in the organisation.
  • UK Driving Licence.
  • Product training will be provided.
  • Progression within the organisation is anticipated & encouraged.
