Yorkshire Ambulance Service NHS Trust are looking for talented Clinical Navigators to join our Emergency Operations Centre team, based at either Wakefield or York.

Working at the heart of our 999 operations, you will provide clinical oversight and support to incidents within a defined area, helping to ensure that waiting patients receive the right care, in the right place, at the right time.

This may involve working in either an upstream or downstream Clinical Navigator position, using your clinical expertise to assess risk, support dispatch decision-making and identify the most appropriate response for each patient.

Our Emergency Operations Centres at Wakefield and York are central to the delivery of emergency and urgent care across Yorkshire and the Humber. We have invested significantly in our EOC services and are continuing to develop new ways of working that align with the wider healthcare economy.

Clinical Navigators play a vital role in maintaining the safety of patients who are waiting for an ambulance response. The role involves using a range of approaches depending on the operational context at the time, balancing individual patient need with wider service demand and available resources.

This may include contacting patients or their representatives by telephone or video link, reviewing the order of waiting incidents, requesting further clinical assessment, utilising alternative providers or specialist resources, and identifying where a patient may benefit from a different response rather than a double-crewed ambulance. All decisions are made within agreed policies and Standard Operating Procedures, supported by clinical guidelines and decision-support tools where required.

As a clinical specialist working alongside the dispatch team, the Clinical Navigator helps to balance the needs of individual patients with the requirement to maintain an effective response across the wider geographical area. At times of high demand, sound clinical decision-making, resource prioritisation and risk management are essential to maximising patient safety.

A key part of the role is acting as a point of contact for partner agencies, developing and maintaining strong working relationships that support safe, joined-up care for patients.

We are looking for innovative and ambitious clinicians who are committed to clinical excellence, continuous professional development and high-quality patient care. You will be confident making complex clinical decisions, able to communicate clearly with EOC and operational colleagues, and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment where priorities can change quickly.

To be successful in this role, you must be a registered healthcare professional, such as a Registered Nurse or Paramedic, with current NMC (RN1 Adult) or HCPC registration as appropriate. Applicants must also have substantial recent experience working within urgent and emergency care settings.

You will bring the clinical confidence and judgement needed to support safe decision-making for patients, crews and colleagues across the wider urgent and emergency care system.

This role is offered on a full-time permanent basis. Secondment or rotational opportunities with operations may be considered. Part-time working may also be considered, although any reduction in hours or flexibility would need to be balanced against the operational constraints of the department.
