Full job description

Are you caring, patient and proactive? We're looking for Support Workers to join our team supporting children and young people with additional needs, at home and out in the community across Medway.

You will work with children and young people who may be non-verbal, have learning disabilities, or present with challenging behaviours, supporting them to take part in meaningful activities, develop independence, and build confidence.

This role also involves working closely with families - balancing expectations, providing reassurance, and promoting positive relationships to achieve the best outcomes for each child.

What you'll do

  • Support clients in activities at home and in the community
  • Follow each client's care plan and, where needed, their Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) plan, using calm de-escalation techniques
  • Support clients with daily living activities and encourage them to make their own choices
  • Communicate in each client's own way, e.g. PECS, Makaton, E-tran or communication books
  • Help with personal care and mobility where needed, always with dignity
  • Build trusting relationships with clients and their families
  • Keep support plans, risk assessments and behaviour records up to date
  • Follow safeguarding, confidentiality and health & safety procedures at all times

Essential

  • Full UK driving licence and your own car, as you will take clients to community activities
  • Available to work weekends [e.g. every weekend / alternate weekends]
  • Experience supporting children or young people with learning disabilities, autism or complex needs (paid or unpaid, e.g. SEN school, respite, youth or play work)
  • Calm, patient and confident when a client is distressed
  • Right to work in the UK
  • Enhanced DBS check (adult and child workforce) and two professional references

Desirable

  • Level 2 or 3 in Health & Social Care or Children & Young People's Workforce
  • Experience with PECS, Makaton, E-tran or other communication methods
  • Training in Positive Behaviour Support or de-escalation

What you'll get

  • £12.80–£13.00 per hour
  • Full induction and ongoing training, including PBS and communication methods
  • Career progression within a growing, caring organisation
  • A supportive team
  • Rewarding work where you see the difference you make every day

Pay: £12.80-£13.00 per hour

Licence/Certification:

  • Driving Licence (required)

Work Location: In person
