St Edmund of Canterbury Catholic Church, Whitton, is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Parish Youth Worker to establish and lead an engaging youth ministry programme for young people in our parish. This is an exciting opportunity to make a lasting impact by helping young people grow in faith, confidence, and community.
About the Role
Working closely with the Parish Priest, you will develop and deliver a sustainable youth programme for two age groups, creating opportunities for young people to deepen their relationship with God, build friendships, and become active members of parish life. You will also strengthen links between the parish and local schools, helping to foster meaningful connections within the wider community.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, develop, and lead fortnightly youth groups for two age groups.
- Create a welcoming, engaging, and safe environment for young people.
- Deliver activities that encourage spiritual, social, and personal development.
- Build positive relationships with local primary and secondary schools.
- Recruit, support, and coordinate volunteers involved in youth ministry.
- Ensure compliance with safeguarding policies and best practice.
- Maintain accurate records and support communication with young people, parents, schools, volunteers, and the wider parish community.
What We’re Looking For
We’re seeking someone who is not only competent in youth work but who also embodies our diocesan values of Competence, Reliability, Honesty, Perseverance, and Love.
- Has experience working with children or young people, either professionally or in a voluntary capacity.
- Has a strong and active Christian faith with a genuine passion for youth ministry.
- Is an excellent communicator with strong organisational skills.
- Can build positive relationships and work collaboratively with others.
- Understands safeguarding and child protection responsibilities.
- Is committed to the mission and values of the Catholic Church.
- Holds a relevant youth work qualification or is willing to undertake training.
Experience of working within a church, parish, charity, or faith-based setting would be advantageous.
Working Hours
- Friday: 5.00pm to 7.00pm
- Tuesday: 1.00pm to 4.00pm
Alternative fixed working times may be discussed at interview. The successful candidate will also be expected to participate actively in either the Family Mass or Youth Mass on weekends.
Experience working in a faith-based or charitable setting is welcome but not essential.
