Full job description

The role

You will be working at a bench modding and repairing PS5, PS4, Xbox controllers: stick module replacements, Hall effect and TMR upgrades, back button installs, board-level repairs, and full disassembly and reassembly. As well as console repair/diagnostic for HDMI, No Power Fault Finding, Overheating and so on. All parts and equipment are supplied.

Most builds/repairs take 30 to 40 minutes(often much less for simple repairs), so we are looking for someone who can comfortably complete around 10 quality units per day once up to speed. Speed matters, but nothing leaves the bench half done. Units are inspected under magnification and anything that fails QC comes back to you.

Console repair skills are a genuine advantage. Overheating services, thermal maintenance, HDMI port replacement, and no-power fault diagnosis all come through the workshop, and a technician who can handle consoles as well as controllers will get more shifts.

What we are looking for

  • Excellent soldering skills: clean joints, correct tip selection, proper heat control, confident use of flux, no lifted pads, no cold joints. You will be asked to demonstrate this at a practical assessment
  • Hot air rework competence for surface-mount and component-level work
  • Board-level diagnostics: comfortable with a multimeter, able to trace faults, detect shorts (including voltage injection techniques), and work methodically from symptom to cause
  • Confident use of workshop tools including Dremel rotary tools, microscopes, and desoldering equipment
  • Ability to fully disassemble and reassemble controllers with no cosmetic damage
  • A clean, organised workstation and genuine attention to detail
  • Ability to understand schematics
  • Reliable, punctual, with good written English for job notes
  • Right to work in the UK

Desirable

  • Console repair experience (PS5, PS4, Xbox): thermal servicing, HDMI port replacement, no-power diagnostics
  • Phone repair or micro soldering background
  • IPC-A-610 or similar certification
  • An interest in gaming. If you know why stick drift matters, you will understand our customers

Pay and progression

  • £13.00 per hour base rate
  • Monthly performance bonus based on output and first-time QC pass rate, explained in full at interview. Strong performers consistently earn the equivalent of £14.50 to £15.50+ per hour
  • Zero-hours to begin with: we offer shifts, you accept the ones that suit you, no obligation on either side
  • Consistent quality work leads to more shifts, and for the right person, a permanent position

How to apply

Send your CV with a short cover letter. A few sentences is enough, but it must tell us: why we should choose you out of the 100+ applications we expect to receive, and what you will bring to the company. Cover it alongside the practical detail we need: what you have soldered, what devices you have diagnosed and repaired, and the most difficult board-level repair you have completed. Photos of your actual work (boards, joints, finished repairs) will put you straight to the top of the pile.

Please note: applications submitted without a cover letter will not be read. This role demands attention to detail, and following the application instructions is the first test.

Our process: application review (no cover letter, no review), a short phone call, then a practical assessment at the workshop (1 to 2 hours at the bench showing us what you can do), followed by a fast decision. No six-round interview process.

Pay: £13.00-£15.00 per hour

Benefits:

  • Employee discount

  • Have you done board-level repair (not just part swaps) on phones, consoles, or controllers?
  • List the devices you have repaired and roughly how many of each.
  • Briefly describe the most difficult board-level repair you have completed.
  • Are you available for weekday shifts starting 8:00am, minimum 3 days per week?
  • Do you have experience with PCB Schematics, if so what?
